GM not building cars US wants
If GM & Chevrolet are not building vehicles the public wants, according to congress.
How come I've got 3 that I wouldn't trade for anything else on the market today.
Corvette. The ultimate sports car, American dream for any car owner. Great gas milage and extreme performance.
TBSS. SUV with great handling, Maybe the best performance SUV ever.
Yukon. You can actually use this 4wd SUV for something beside hauling groceries. I use it to pull a 5000 pound boat and trailer, which it does quite well.

The corvette is the only car manufactured by GM that I would buy. I own a Ford F-150 and my wife drives an expedition and they both have been flawless. I'm looking at buying a new F-150. To each his own.

Saying that the American automakers "aren't building cars that people want" is an oversimplified, politically correct lens to view the industry's problems through. Both sides adhere to this but people who actually follow the industry know better.
The Big 3 have made major improvements in their products in both quality and value since the 80s and from the early 90s till the present they were all doing relatively well. The SUV market was huge in this country when gas was "cheaper than water" and the Big 3 built cars that matched what was demanded. The Japanese automakers had been up-sizing their car/truck lineups prior to the most recent energy cost spike.
The real elephant in the room is healthcare. Current and legacy healthcare costs add approximately ~$1,500 in cost per/car, a burden our competitors don't bear. There's hostility to the idea of Universal Health Care on the Right and on the Left there's a disconnected belief that people wanted "greener" cars all along, leading both to take cover behind the "product" argument for explaining the industry's ills. In the end BOTH are missing the true cause.

I know that the Corvette is a Chevy but I don't think of it that way. I also don't think that I've seen a Chevrolet logo anywhere on the car.
It's simply a Corvette.

I do have an 06 Envoy Denali with 44k miles on it with only one problem. 07 Impala SS had a couple problems in 25k. Vette is flawless in 11k (Ok roof latches only).
The new Malibu is extremely sharp in my opinion. No it is not a BMW M3 or a CTS V but it is excellent transportation for around $26k and its factory has the highest rating for midsize cars (above the Accord and Camry by the way). I'm not too crazy about a $40k G8 though that has 70% foreign parts.

The state of the economy is not exactly helping matters at GM, but I would say they have been too slow to understand what the consumer wants. Yes we all love our Corvettes but they have not been exactly flying off the dealers lots either.

There are a number of cars GM makes that I would buy. I think the new Camaro is a serious contender and I like their pickups are great. If the Vette is any indication, I think GM is making better cars than they used to.

Quality is much much better. I can see the better quality from my C5 to my C6. I also have a 2000 Silverado that is a top notch pickup with no problems and is A1 in my book.
