the 2005 c6 manuel had to be left in reverse when shutting off other all the computer systems stayed on and drained the battery,i've had 2 other c6's an 08 vert and an 08 z06 and neither has to be left in reverse turn them both off normally and i've never had a problem

My '07 sits in neutral when off. DBS is not an issue any more. The '05 M6 had this issue and has been corrected with a software reflash.

I have an 05 M6 also and have always made it a habit to park the car in reverse on any manuel shift. While it has not been an issue with me What can you tell me about the reflash, did the dealer do it and did they charge for it? If not who did it?

Only the 05 Manuals and EXPORTS have to be put in reverse to be shut down. After the vehicle is off it can be put in any gear.
Not sure if EXPORTS include Canada & Mexico, but the Europe bound cars do unless that recently changed!

yes, I would also like to know if there is a fix for my 05. I can't stand having to put it in reverse. Plus, every time I go to Chicago and have it put in the hotel garage, they never put it in reverse and the battery dies. How do we fix this??

I had the reflash done with my 05. The dealer did it, and it was free then. Takes about 15 minutes. If I remember correctly the # of the reflash was. P1C188B

No way to fix that I TRIED, somehow this is covered by federal law.
They cannot bring the 05 up to later specs, it ALWAYS has to be shut down in reverse.
My fix was to get rid of the 05 and get a 07 Z06!

I'm confused! I thought the reflash of the software eliminated the mandatory reverse position when shutting down the engine? What gives?

The reflash did not change the shutdown sequence for any car, only addressed electronics staying on when they weren't supposed to.

The reflash was to correct problems associated with DBS - even when the car was properly shut down, some electronics were staying on, causing batteries to go dead.

So.... You STILL must put it in reverse before you kill the engine? What happens if you don't?

My understanding is that even though it is parked in reverse, there are times when it still doesn't shut down everything. The reflash changes the software to make sure the vehicle is completely shut down although it still has to be left in reverse. There have been numerous '05s that have had repeated "dead batterty syndrome" (DBS) even though they have been shut down in reverse. Federal law required the shut down to be in reverse for some auto theft precaution only for '05.

Now as far as the OP, his car is an 08, and if the dealer told him he needs to shift his shifter to reverse to keep the battery from dying, then he needs to find a better qualified dealer.
