Tire decision Firestone or Michelin?
What would you do?
Need tires for my 2006 c6 vert. Looked at Tire Rack for prices and Installer. Firestone wide oval run flat $1,000 + $158 install + tax. Michelin $1622 + $158 install + tax. After discussion with Tire Kingdom Service Manager he will sell and install Michelin's for the same price as Firestone. I prefer Firestone because wear rate is 320 verses 220 on Michelin.
I never expected to have this kind of problem. He really wanted to sell me the Michelin's from the start. Asked how he could do this and he said Tire Kingdom owns Tire Rack. This may be sales BS I just do not know. What do you think? and what would you do?
I have another tire store I want to get a price from to see what they will offer.

What model Michelin? If it's the new run-flat ZP I'd do that for the same price as Firestones. I just changed to Firestone RFT and like them alot. I don't have a lot of seat time with them so I have not pushed them hard. But I'm very happy with them so far. They ride better than the Goodyear SuperCars.

I've had my Firestone Wide Ovals for about 3 months now (about 3000 miles). I really wanted Michelin's but my cost would have been $2000 out the door vs about 1000+ for the Firestone's. So it was a no brainer. However, I cannot complain as the ride is much better, hardly any noise and like you said the tread life should be better. I'm happy with the Firestone tires.

I purchased the Michelin PS2's ZP's from tirerack. They are great and I am very happy with them. They are expensive, but if you can purchase them for less than tirerack, I would go for the Michelin's. Make sure they are OEM size PS2 ZP's !
Note: Comparing tread wear within the same brand can be helpful. However, comparing tread wear with different brands of tires are not, tests are inconsistent among different brands.

It depends on how you drive it, 320 vs 220 is a big difference in handling, grip, etc.
Anyways, depends on how you drive your vette. Better grip = better tire, but more wear. Less grip = less tire but less wear. I'd stick with run flats either way though.

Michelin's for the same price as Firestones' Wow. Put Firestones on 5K ago, still look like new. I must be truly lucky cause I got mine mounted and balanced, OTD for $ 1000 flat. Anyway great tire, but I'm not hard on them nor am I a tracker. But again, for the same price, I'd REALLY have to consider the Michelin's base on reputation alone. Good luck.

I've had the Wide Ovals on my '07 for 35k miles now. The rears are getting a bit thin and will be replaced before winter (the SC version of it anyway), and the fronts should easily last into the middle of next year. In the past, the longest I had a tire last on an LSx powered car was 20k, and there were cords showing.
