Default Turtle Wax Rim Clean damaged my rotors

Hey,
Has anybody used Turtle Wax Rim Clean?
If so, did it cause streaking and spotting on the painted portion of your rotors?
Did it make the calipers look hazy/chalky?
Did it cause rut to appear on the rotors where there should not be any rust?

If so, what did you do about it?
I am putting in a claim to Turtle Wax and wondered if anyone else has done this too.
Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Meguiars Hot Wheels will do that also....I ended up dipping mine in muriatic acid and repainting them...

That's exactly why I don't use any of that chit on my Vette or any other vehicle I own.

I've never heard of this happening?

Were your wheels/brakes fully cooled down? Had you just stopped driving?

It's really common. Most of those commercial wheel cleaners have a mild acid in them. Check the ingredients and warnings before you buy. Better yet, don't use them.

Why would anyone use them....its paint on the wheels, clear paint, but paint. Wash it and wax it like any other paint. Zaino, Rejex, Meguiars, whatever.

I still dont see how this would happen unless you left it on too long, the wheels/brakes were still hot, or you didnt fully wash it off.

I've NEVER had an issue with any wheel cleaner on atleast a dozen cars with varying types of wheels. The only wheels I didnt use them on where uncoated polished wheels.

You can't leave wheel cleaner on the wheels for any period of time. More than 1 minute is to long. The only time I have had issue with these types of cleaners is when I didn't rinse soon enough. I currently use a wheel cleaner now to clean my painted calipers and SS pad covers and it works well, as long as I rinse quickly.

I've never had this problem. I read the label before I buy any auto cleaning product and if I buy it I follow the instructions.

I have been using a mixture of 50 % Simple Green and 50 % distilled water.

It works great with no problems. Spray it on, let it sit for a minute or so, hose it off, and then wash with warm soapy water.

Yep, body shops use similar stuff to clean whole vehicles before paint. I had an incident where 4 new Wilwood brake calipers were totally ruined with that nice chalky look after having a vehicle repaired at a body shop. Sure enough the chemical container said DO NOT USE on aluminum. Long story short, I got 4 new calipers.

Sounds like you let the stuff partially dry or sit on the wheel too long or applied it when the brakes were still warm.

Thanks for all of the replies.
Why does everybody assume that the user of a product did not read the directions?

I did, followed the 100%. So, no it was not hot, No I did not leave it on too long. Yes, I followed the instructions EXACTLY as written.
No it does not say "not for aluminum.

Thanks for the positive feedback
