Default Curb weight includes what amount of fuel in the tank?

What amount of fuel in the gas tank does curb weight account for? With a gallon weighing roughly 8 lbs the car can weigh quite a lot more or less depending on what level the tank is assumed to be at. About 144 pounds heavier with the tank full than empty.

I would presume that curb weight includes all fluids normally carried on-board: fuel, oil, coolant, windshield washer, power steering, transmission, and differential. It should not include a driver, passenger, or rated cargo.

Published "Curb Weight" is at best a guess, at worst just another advertizing gimmick. Every option changes the weight of the car, there is no one curb weight for a C6.

If you really want to know the weight of the car, take it to a specialist alignment shop and have it "Corner Weighted".

My '08 Coupe was 3266#'s with aprx 6 gallons of gas (all other fluids full) so aprx 3230#'s for my '08 3LT, A6, Z51, Nav. Maybe subract a few pounds for books, Manuals, tools, etc.

My '05 Coupe was 3251#'s with aprx 3 gallons of gas (all other fluids full) so aprx 3236#'s for an '05 3lt, M6, Z51, Nav. Maybe subtract a few more pounds since I had more tools in the ''05.

What was interesting was the Front to rear distribution; The '05 M6 was 53% F, 47% R, the '08 A6 was 51% F, 49% R.

But I don't think they include a full tank of gas.

Well isn't the Auto heavier than the Manual. And isn't the trans toward the rear of the car? So the weight distribution makes sence.

You could go to your local track, the ones in STL have the scale you drive on for your vehicle weight with driver then simply subtract yourself.

Water is 8 lbs/gal. Gas is about 6 lbs/gal

According to Dan Maslic in his book "Master EFI Tuner" regular grade gas weighs 6.25 lbs per gal @ 72* and Premium grade weighs 6.35 lbs per gal at the same temp. ( Yea, I know, BFD)

My understanding is that curb weight was with 4 gals of gas. Don't have anything to back up that statement, just my failing memory.

edit: doing a google, every source said that the curb weight included a full tank of fuel.

Curb weight is the weight of the vehicle full of fluids but without driver, passenger, or any cargo.

BTW you can use for Gasoline: 6 #/gal, for Oil: 7 #/gal and for water: 8 #/gal. Those are the values we used to use back in the day for calculating take off weights when I was flying. Those are the single easy to remember digits and close enough to not get into trouble trying to take off with a too heavy airplane.

OK . . and the reason we need this precision instead of just talking the weight on the sticker on the door still is: ? ?

That's always been my understanding of the term.

Years ago I worked at a local airport refueling planes. All jet A fuel was ordered by the pound. Avgas was ordered by the gallon. Took some getting used to.

Because the sticker on the door lists MAXIMUM LOADED WEIGHT, not curb weight?
