Now that's a good project for next summer!
Narrower body, wheels and higher pressure tires.
Gotta get that C6 over 200mph on my way to the Mall.

Well I guess I will have to allow a bit more time for my next trip to Florida.

Makes sense to me. Less aerodynamic, same horsepower, slower top speed. Don't buy a GS if your into highway rolls...:-p. Buy it for the look(which I'm sure 99% of ppl will buy for anyway).

Like every single Corvette ever made, it is both an engineering AND a marketing phenomena, dancing together. They have never been separate because marketing drives engineering in most companies. Marketing is not just the promotion of something, it is the definition of what something should be and engineering gets you to that final product to fit that marketing vision.

In the case of the Corvette you have a rich history of this dance. Zora took a marketing exercise and, IMHO, showed that they were slightly off the mark with their original marketing visions, via engineering.

The GS is certainly a marketing exercise aimed at satisfying the market of people here on the forum who (in large numbers) converted their cars to wide-bodied Z06 look-alikes. Early on, most of these were convertible owners who loved the wide body look but wanted a convertible version of it.

The GS is also an engineering exercise in putting the wide body and other Z06 traits on the steel frame while still leaving the market enough segmentation for people to see a distinctive difference when they want to buy.

Default My decision process

Here in Maryland they have a lot of speed cameras. The only way I'm going to upgrade to the Grand Sport is if someone can guarantee that the speed cameras won't be able to catch my license plate at 190! What a car! What a country!

Drag limited? I remember reading that the ECM had a186 MPH cutoff that had to be tuned out if you wanted more speed. Something about a GM CYA on the posted speed capabilities of the tires as delivered.

Any Tumers want to jump in and explain?

Thanks GM for keeping the points down for 107 over instead of 114 wonder if theres a difference. Think I'd go to jail in either case.

If the GS is drag limited to 182 , that means somewhere in the the 170's it REALLY starts to slow down .

Thats too slow for me - Had my 09 at 185 , my 07 at 195 ( with a blower on the 07 ) on an airport runway. Both were still moving when I ran out of room .

I bought this car to go faster than a base 911 can go , so yes , 182 top speed is not good enough ...

The LS2's did have a 186 MPH cutoff , but it could be tuned out .

Not sure about the LS3 .

You'll beat a 911 in a race if that's what you're saying. Unless you compete in top speed runs? It's quicker then the base 911 through a 1/4, through a mile and around a track. What else do you want from the thing?

Top end is whats most important to me .

If I cared about 1/4 miles times I would just buy a 10sec mustang for 15 grand .

Geez, these threads really bring the GS-haters out of the closet!

Its funny, really... people can talk all day about how they are adding radios, ipod adapters, stainless steel trim, engine covers, chrome wheels, extra insulation, full-width spoilers, etc... ALL of which add weight, but its ignored. The GS fenders add like 9 pounds to the C6's weight, and all of a sudden, the haters go all Jenny Craig complaining on how GM has been 'porking up' the Corvette!

GM states the 08-09 coupe with NPP, Z51 and 6 speed manual will hit 190mph in 5th gear @6000rpm. I suspect the GS with NPP and 6 speed manual will be a few mph shy of 190 mph due to the wide body drag.
Yet more proof that Z51 equipped Vettes are the fastest out there, beside the 2 Z's!!

Top speed is unaffected by weight, only wind. How quickly it gets there would be weight related.

Top speed may matter to 1% of potential GS buyers I guess. You rarely have the room to reach it in a stock vette.
