Default C6 Clutch, Does yours do this?

The car is a 09 coupe, 6 speed manual with only 550 miles on it. Often when engaging the clutch easy like when backing out of the garage with little or no throttle, I get a chatter in the clutch that feels like the drivetrain is bouncing. It doesnt do it all the time, but it does do it pretty often. It also does it now and then when taking off from a traffic light slow with not a lot of throttle. If I rev the motor more and slip the clutch its smooth with no chatter feel.
My last Vette was a 04 with an A4 trans, so I cant compare them.
I did have a 5 speed Camaro years ago. It's clutch is action was very smooth.
This C 6 had been sitting on the dealers lot for almost 10 months when I bought it with only 10 miles on it.
Do you think the clutch has a problem? Has anyone else experienced this?

I think they burned the clutch getting it on and off of the truck. NO clutch should chatter. Mine did that when I went to drive it off the lot. I stopped, backed up and said the clutch is chattering make an appointment to replace it and I'll bring it back for the work.

Put some miles on it beore you take it in for maintenance. It probably will improve with use.

takes alot to burn the clutch up, alot more than getting it on and off the truck...

do you feel it in the clutch pedal? or is it a marble sound?. I'm almost sure you are hearing the marble in the can sounds from the transmission.

Mine does not do it and has never done it. I assume you are talking strictly about the clutch chattering and not the motor kind of begging for more gas when you are backing out of the garage, and slowly taking off.

Yes, you can feel it in the clutch pedal. I dont think the it has anything to do with the motor needing more gas. This car has a pretty low 1 st. gear and the motor is not feeling like its going to die when it happens.

Your clutch is barely broken in, put another 500 miles on it then see how it is. A little chatter is normal especially when everything is cold or the clutch is new. I have seen it happen more with aftermarket clutches ( i know a lot of people who run aftermarket clutches in their vette or f-bodies). My clutch had 9000 miles on it when i got it so i can't speak for a new GM clutch. Does it go away after driving it a little?

Well, I see that "it'll go away with usage" seems to be the bulk of the answers. No offense, but it shouldn't do it from day one. If the trucker was slipping the clutch to move it up the ramps, he could have hot spotted the disc and/or the PP. A new clutch does not chatter unless it is installed improperly, defective, or has been abused. I have never had a new clutch chatter and considered it acceptable. Honestly, "Normal" is not the totally correct word.

Let the dealer have a look at it. More than likely, they'll replace the flywheel, PP and disc.

Your choice on what you want to do. I would freak out trying to outlast a chattering clutch but hell, that's just me.

Mine was the same way.
I did go away after about 1,000 miles.

However, mine has recently started to chatter again, after about 9,500 miles.
I'll be making an appointment with the dealer shortly.

Mine does it too, more when it's warm. I have determined that it's probably a hot spot on the flywheel, probably from the car carrier guy. I have 15K miles now and it has not improved either. I'm just afraid of the dealer service dept tearing into the driveline to fix it. Doing a clutch on a Vette is major surgery so I think I'll live with it.

holy crap, reading this thread has me thinking.

I bought my car out of state and while the car carrier was loading my old car on to his truck and he was burning the crap out of the clutch trying to get it up. I'm start to wonder if he did that to my new car also.

What does clutch chatter sound like? You tube video?

My clutch has been making a popping noise while releasing the clutch when the car has sit for a while and when I start in 1st gear. I also hear a lugging noise when I finish engaging the clutch.

You're actually talking about two different things. You can't hear clutch chatter. Clutch chatter is when you're letting out the clutch at low RPMs and you feel a surging/vibrating sensation like the clutch is grabbing intermittently. The noise you hear is the "marbles in a can" phenomena. It's weird but it only occurs at very slow speeds, usually in 1st and 2nd. It has to do with torque tube vibration through the drive line from what I have heard.

I bought my '08 new, and the clutch has never done that. The two manual transmission cars I bought new before that didn't do it either. Take it to the dealer dude. That's what warranties are for.

sounds like I will be taking it to the dealer soon. I really isnt a big deal, but it should be right and I dont want to have the dealer tell me later on that I must have abused it drag racing etc.

In my experience the vette clutch is grabby, and it likes a little more rpm for smooth engagement. Not enough rpm/slip to be abusive of course, but in the area of 1500rpm. The first gear is so tall that it's in the neighborhood of 8mph/1000rpm, so you can't really expect to have the cluth fully closed until around 10mph or more. If it's closed before that, it may be hard to tell chatter from bog/lugging. Also, on pull aways that immediately involve a turn, i notice a little shake/shimmy that I assume is from the limited slip diff... But if your issue is stright line only that isn't relevant.
