mobil 1 oil filter
#3
I put one on my C5 a few years ago and it wouldn't seal. Removed and re-installed but still leaked. Replaced with K&N and no leak. I believe that it is a good filter and maybe a fluke in my case. I do like that fact that K&N has a nut on the end so you can loosen it with a socket wrench.

The Mobil 1 filter is made by Chamption Labs and is an excellent filter. Stay away from anything made by Fram. This link will take you to a great site on oil filters. If I recall correctly, the K/N and Mobil 1 are basically the same filter.

Well...
If you read up on the Mobil 1 filter, THEY say it can filter their oil better as it is made for it, to have the smaller particles filtered. They say with their filter you get 15,000 miles of life... without, you don't...

The Autozone deal is a great deal.

Run from Fram as quick as you can.

Mobil 1 Oil Filter
I have a 2012 GS Corvette with a 6.2 litter, auto trans Not equipped with a dry sump. To the best of my ability I have tried to find the right Mobil 1 Oil Filter.
This is what I have been told.
Mobil1 1-113 Has a by pass, for a dry sump.
Mobil1 1-101 No by pass.
What filter is right if either, and is the dry sump a consideration?
Thank You

I've bought just about every brand of oil filter there is over the past 50 years and have not found one that doesn't work the way it's spose to. Of course you may get a bad fluke for one reason or another....bad seal...etc, but it could happen to any brand. As far as the filtering properties go, i'm sure if you get a decent quality filter that it will do fine. Whether or not one filter "filters" that much better than another for everyday street purposes will of course be debated on this forum for ever. I usually get what ever decent brand is cheapest. Fram included......don't know why there is so much Fram bashing here. I've never had a problem with a Fram......

I use K&N now, but only because of the hex nut welded onto the bottom.

Mobile 1 oil filters are good filters. As has been pointed out, made by Champion Labs.
Very similar to Bosch oil filters, sold in the USA, and to the K&N oil filters. Minor differences betwen them, including the nut on the bottom of some of the K&N examples.

Fram went from being a good filter years ago to being a crappy filter and back to being a good filter again since their last acquisition by Rank which also owns Champion. You can find lots of sites with pictures and cut up filters showing the differences in construction. I try the avoid the filters assembled with hot glue and cardboard.

I use the Mobil 1 Extended Filter. I have used it for years on other cars (just got the Corvette in December). Never had a problem and they say it filters for 15,000 miles. I have not kept one on that long
however. I changed other vehicles (Ford Taurus) oil at 8-10,000 miles (highway). With the Corvette it will be once a year or 6-7,000 miles whichever comes first. Never had a problem.
I also use Mobil 1 Extended Synthetic Oil.
