C6 Comprehensive Fob Programming Instructions
#483
I'll share my trials & tribulations for this issue. My 2009 M6 is in storage unit for 4 months with the negative battery terminal disconnected. Last week I reconnect the negative lead and parking lights illuminate. Key Fob #1 not responding so I manually enter the car, alarm goes off until I press the unlock button on the door. "No key fob" warning on the DIC. Figure I'll come back later with Fob #2 and maybe the ECM/BCM/whatever needs some time to relearn.
Yesterday, I return to the storage unit. Neither Fob is responding to any of the button commands. Gain access back into car (can't remember if the doors opened with the handle or I had to enter manually). "No key Fob" warning and I can't start the car! Between the owner's manual and Youtube info, I try starting the car with a fob in the glovebox slot. After 8 or 9 attempts it finally starts. So I get the Vette home and attach a Battery Tender.
No response again from the fobs while in the driveway so in my haste I start the owner's manual reprogramming instructions. Frustrated I pulled the negative battery terminal before the long programming procedure finished. After finding this thread and some other's I fear the worst; a bad RCDLR or BCM and a tow to the nearest Chevy dealer. Just want to get the car started again and driven into my garage for further diagnosis. I measure Fob voltage as 2.86V for #1 and 0.18V for #2.
This morning I realize that I've cleared all fob programming and why not attempt the long procedure again. At the end of thirty minutes, both fobs are accepted as #1 and #2, but still no response anywhere and that damn No Fob warning on the DIC. Fob #1 should work. So I shove it back into the slot and pull it toward me (steering wheel) and guess what? The starter switch lights up green and the engine starts!
Run out to the nearest store for new CR2032 fob batteries. Each measures 3.2V and now both fobs are working 100%.
If you don't think your glovebox slot is functioning, pull the fob towards the radio while it's inserted in the slot. The RCDLR antenna is on the left side of that slot, behind the plastic. May save you a trip to the stealership.

Is a dealer the only place to get an emergency key blank that will work with the fob and cylinder lock? I plan on getting another fob and want to replicate the em key that's hidden in the fob as well.

I've been reading through this thread for a while now and have't been able to get the DIC to display anything after the five key turn. I've done 20 plus more than 10 times. HAH!
Anyway, will this procedure work if I don't have a currently working FOB. I lost my only working one.

You can order a blank online like I did. I ordered two, went to dealer with the code provided by the selling dealer along with the title and they cut the new key. Then took my second blank to ace hardware......

You have to have a key BUT........
When the key doesn't work there are a couple of manual workarounds to try. But you really need to get a key. If you aren't in the US you might have to just order a whole new lock cylinder and key from the US. If it matters to you, you would also have to order a new glove box latch to match the new key for the back.
Anyway, go look at posts #111 and #112 in this thread. There are 2 tips to try to manually work the lock mechanism or bypass it with the wires.
Good luck.
