Take a look at Elite Engineering's catch can. You will never find something better made or of higher quality. That, and the whole can is threaded in the middle so the oil it catches is easy to empty. The ones with the spigot in the bottom would, I think be a PITA to empty as there is NOT a lot of room down there underneath the catch can......JMHO.............

If you DO decide to go this route, they have it on sale on their website for WAY more than they have it listed for on a famous auction site....just an FYI....if you are going to buy this, you might as well get the best deal they are offering, right?

Is this a necessary mod? Or is it just extra caution?

How do you plumb it? I mean there are 2 holes on the catch can and only 1 hose that comes from the engine....

I am currently looking at buying the Saikou Michi one for the LS1 and have not heard anything bad. It is a dual can design that you run both the "intake" and "exhaust" lines to. The other benefit I see (JMHO) is minus a chrome finish he will powdercoat almost any color and it comes with the mounting bracket for $135 + shipping. Can't wait until the new year is here so I can order. Christmas presents for the kids are #1 priority!
There is also one on JEG's but it is small and plastic but $45ish and of course others that are from supporting vendors like CCA and Elite Engineering which look like quality products. Mostly I think comes down to personal preference and of course $$.

When I had a mazdaspeed6 almost everyone (including me) used saikou CCs. Good quality and no probs. You should have seen the crap it would catch!

I'm looking at the Saikou CC also. From what I have read from other people that use this, each can catches oil with different type events. That means one can will not eliminate the problem.

I put a CCA catch can on my 05 about 2 years ago. I wish I had had it since day 1. At each oil change I drain 3 to 4 oz of oil out that would have otherwise traveled through the intake runners.
