Default Nav system

I have an 08 with the reagualar stereo system. Is is worth buying the GM Nav radio system or would it be better to go aftermarket?

I have an 05 with the built in Nav. Prior to that I had a tom tom that I bought for $99 and it ran circles around the Gm Nav. However, I am still glad I got it since it is practical despite the cumersome non-user friendly design.

If you can get a good aftermarket, I say go for it.

I would just go with Kenwood. I considered the factory NAV but besides its ability to work with the HUD there really isn't anything I like about it compared to an aftermarket unit.

I say Kenwood because it is Garmin based which knows more about NAV systems than GM does.

GM doesn't make the nav system, Denso does (they make Lexus also). AFAIK, GM uses two sources, Denso and Alpine. I wish Garmin would do OEM navigation systems.....

Amazing the difference between Lexus Denso and GM Denso. Just like with Bose, you get what you paid for with GM.

I bought my wife a high level Garmin last year. Other than graphics (text placement) I think the GM unit does rather well considering the technology is at least 5 or 6 years old now. (I have an '05 with the nav) Updating is problematic since we can't connect it to the internet and get up to date maps. I live in Houston and the roads here change dramatically from year to year. I like the interaction with the HUD also.

The Denso unit in the 2003 Lexus LS 430 had nearly the same feature set as the Corvette Denso unit. The 2008 LS460 is better. The C6 buss system defines what unit can be used.....
