Often discussed topic - you really ought to check your state regs for vehicle inspections.

In Texas, shops will not tint as dark as 15% on the side windows that flank the driver's seat. If you do it yourself, you can't get the inspection sticker until you remove the dark tint film. The testing stations have the device to measure light transmission, and they use it.

This is from the Texas Dept of Transportation:
"Windows immediately to the right and left of the driver that have less than 25% light transmission will fail inspection, regardless of the year model of the vehicle."

I have the darkest legal tint on my SUV, but none on the GS vert. The ability to make eye contact with other drivers when piloting this low-height vehicle is valuable to me.

Thanks for the info. I'm in Nebraska and I think state law is 25% also but not sure. I personally don't like to go any darker than that anyways. In my opinion going to dark makes it to difficult to see out especially at night. I had never given any thought about the vehicle height and eye contact with other drivers but that is certainly worth considering. However I do most of my driving w/top and windows down. Just like the looks of the tint when parked w/top and windows up. State of Nebraska doesn't require vehicle inspections. At least not yet. Years ago they use to, that was back when I was just a youngin and they were a pain in the rear.
