Removing the Chevy-type Front License Plate Bracket
I want to get a nice front license plate bracket from a forum vendor. However, I am afraid to try to remove my current bracket on the car (in VA required) installed by Chevy (or the dealer).
Anyone know the safe way. I can take it to an auto body shop I guess...just don't want to screw up.

If you know for sure it is just held on with the factory adhesive tape (and not screws like some have been known to do) just heat the center portion with a blow dryer or heat gun (after you take off the plate) and it will pull right off. Continue with the heat to remove any leftover tape. Use GooGone or WD-40 to remove any adhesive residue.

Just what I wanted, a fool proof method. What's the worse that can happen????
Thanks again.

The dealer probably mounted it with screws - they come with the mounting bracket.

I just took delievery of a 09 and they handed me the brqcket in a box - it has adhesive pads (3) they use to stick it to the bumper. I would be surprized if they screwed it ?? I would post a picture of the back of the bracket but I can't figure out the picture posting deal here.

No screws with mine when car was delivered new. I live in Ohio, a 2 plate state, so they have to include the bracket with the car, but I was sure to tell them not to install it when the car arrived.

I bought my C6 from a dealer's inventory. He had already installed the bracket (using the three circular adhesive "dots") and I asked him to remove it. The adhesive was removed completely although there were a couple of small "dimples" where the license plate bolts made contact with the bumper. I'm the only one who has noticed them.

I removed mine with fishing line. Cleaned up the adhesive with 3m remover.
There was a problem with mine. The bracket had come in contact with the paint and rubbed a spot on the clear. I doubt it can be buffed out.

Had to work late.....
A "Thank You" to all.
I wanted to pull the plate last night and see if screws are in the bracket, but I had to work late...
I will check this tonight. Every suggestion has been great.
I will keep you informed. I really hate the front bracket and plate.

Wooo Hoooo!
I will do a picture thing if anyone cares, but all is good.
Unscrewed the license plate and no screws in bracket. Used a hair dryer to loosen the top left sticky pad. Once it pulled away a little I could heat behind the bracket and all just came loose in a few minutes.
Anyone else do this, just remember, why rush?
I may have a little clear coat rubbing to deal with, but very minor. Using a good detail spray I think it looks pretty good.
Gotta love that nose without the fugly bracket.
To all of you, thanks!!!
P.S. I just noticed this is post #13 and today is Friday......What me worry?
