Default Has Anyone dug up their garage???

Problem...too many cars not enough space

I would like to add a lift to my garage. But...the ceiling is too low. I was (am) thinking about talking to a contractor about digging out 1/2 of my garage so I can drive my 2009 C6 down or drive straight onto the ramps raise it up and park my daily driver CTS below it.

I would leave the other half untouched..my wife's car goes there.

Is that a stupid or impractical idea?

Here are some pictures....

It probably would be easyer if you extendid outward into the driveway.

<----used to be a sunroom untill I bought the house, I could use a few more garage spaces myself.

Maybe you should just find another place with a bigger garage or one that you could extend up or out.

Thanks but..

Nope..that will not work...my basement wall is behind it ..
They say my garage is for 4 cars arranged 2 in front side by side and 2 behind side by side..

Would work if I drove Austin Healy 3000s or something that small, but not a CTS, a c6, a C300 (wifes car) and a jeep Grand Cherokee..

Why not jack the house up and build a garage under it? That's what my coworkers keep telling me. Now that I think about it...........

I would be concerned about water. I have heard stories of people having serious issues due to sump pump failure or a power outage not allowing the sump pump to run.

Most building codes wouldn't allow this. It is one thing to have a drive-out door like a walk out basement but totally different to have no outside access. Too dangerous as it could build up gasoline fumes.

Go up! It looks like you have a deck above the garages. Extend the garage ceiling in place of the deck on that side.
