Onstar?
When the vette comes out of storage in about 4 weeks , I am thinking about getting onstar basic service. I know they can unlock your car or shut it down if stolen. You guys that have it, what ya think of it?
Also, will they suspend the onstar subscription during the months you store the car? Thanks. tdb

I'm pretty sure that Onstar charges you by the year. I have never heard of them not charging you for when the car is in storage. I pay by the year although I have never used the service, it's one of those just in case services.

You can have the Onstar service for a total of $12.95 per month. I like the phone feature. If you do a lot of business by phone, and have Verizion, you can add your Onstar phone number to your family share Verizion plan for $9.95 per month.

I find them very accommodating and willing to work with you on this issue. They have also reinstated my phone minutes as a "courtesy" that would normally run out at the end of the year period.

GM's new Remote Ignition Block enabling OnStar to shut down your stolen car once it is in sight of the police, was not available on your '08 C6.
I'm not sure which '09-'10 GM models do have the new feature.

I believe all 09-10 models have this feature now to shut the car down when it is stolen.... that is why I cancelled onstar for my 08.

Read several of your posts in several threads now and all I see is bashing and being negative. Maybe you need to move onto another forum.
To the OP, Onstar is good for some and not others. It is kind of like any mod out there, it is really up to you. If it can be suspended during the winter storage months, that is a big plus. I did not know they would do that for you.

On star IMO, is worth every penny for a few reasons:
1) Since I don't like carrying around a cell phone, anytime I'm in the vette, I have one, and it's hands free. My regular cell phone is usually found in my other car....shut off.
2) They will suspend my service in the months that I have the vehicle stored. ie: I renewed my subscibtion in October 09, and because of the suspension option, the year renewal will actually get me to Feb 2011.
3) Peace of mind due to crash feature...heaven forbid....
4) Monthly e-mail update on system status, although far from rocket science, is an OK feature.

Onstar works with you when Storing your vehicle. They extend your year up to eighteen months.
You can phone them or push your Blue Button to let them know your vehicle has made it's last Journey for the next several months.
During storage you won't receive any annoying e-mails asking you to check your vehicle because it isn't answering their monthly call signal.
Also, while your car is in storage your stolen vehicle protection is still active, should your car get stolen.
When your ready to take your car out of storage just push the blue button and let them know she's back on the road.

I found this thread through the Search function because I wanted info about multi car rates or promotional rates since I now have the Vette and another Vehicle using Onstar.
I find the suspending service option Great.
I called Onstar and explained my situation and they Offered me Great Rates with Great Service.
I now have each Vehicle covered for 12 months + 2 free extra Months (14 total ) for $148.92 each vehicle.
And as mentioned: when suspending service, all the minutes and service will be extended the amout of time it was suspended.
IMO I'm a Happy camper and have to say, the Onstar adviser was great to deal with.
They offered great promotional info without having to prod them for it, and did everything right there on the phone

Twice now, after putting the fob in my jacket pocket instead of pants pocket (because I was wearing pants with no pockets), I've unthinkingly thrown the jacket into the trunk, closed the trunk and... that sinking feeling.
Both times, Onstar to the rescue.
One of those times, I was with a girl, and that initial what-an-idiot impression given by locking us out of my car was actually MORE than offset by how impressed she was when I simply whipped out my phone and used it to unlock the car :-)

I have it on all 3 of my cars. If they didn't give me a good rate I would dump them but otherwise I like the service.
I don't care much for the unlocking feature since I've been driving 25 years and never locked my keys inside the car. Of course I owned some cars that you couldn't lock your keys in the car.
I have the directions on my 2009 Yukon (it is "free" for a year) and it my opinion it is not worth it. It works ok and in my opinion was created because you cant enter destinations into the stock NAV while moving but I find it to be pretty much useless.
