Your biggest expense yet
After my last experience with an American car (pontiac) I said I will never buy an American car. I bought Mazda brand news (Mazda6, Cx7, etc) in the last 6 years.
Last year, I felt in love with the Vette and ordered a Cyber Gray C6 Convertible. I can't complaint and I would not change it for anything but now I'm just curious as to the quality of this car.
Besides normal wear and tear, and regular maintenance (oil change, filters, tire rotations); what have been your biggest expenses? i.e. new engine, transmission, etc.
Can Corvette last for over 100K miles? I drive a lot of miles but I'm sharing the commute between my other cars to avoid excessive miles on the Vette.
Thanks for your input...

MODS... $20k!! Don't buy a Vette, you'll be addicted to MODS>>
Of course outside of that, I have only had to buy tires, and it was $1200 for four.
I've owned a few Vettes. Two of them were my commuter car. I've never had more than 30k on one personally, but there are people on here who have 100k on them without much trouble.

No repair expenses on my '05 w/25K miles, just mods. It's been "dead nuts" reliable! Oh yeah, still on the original tires.

In 25K miles the only large expense (except mods) was a set of tires at about 14K miles ($1150). That was because the originals were the Supercar tires. I expect to get far better mileage out of the Firestones and they grip better also. I went to a dealer for warranty once to get the rear oil TSB fix and for a lose connector under the driver's seat. The dealer (a large dealership selling dozens of Corvettes every year and sponsoring the local Corvette club) broke the rockers by lifting it incorrectly. They did fix the rear clunk and loose connecter and with several day in the shop, repaired the rockers.

26,500 miles on my 2005. A couple items were covered under warranty. MY tires were surpercar tires like above. I replace the front two due to the front end alignment. The rears still look good and I expect to get over 30,000 on them.

good question - I have the extended warranty on mine up to 100k bumper to bumper - I have 15k after one year - love the car more every time I drive it - my tires are still in great shape - and I drive it hard.

I have bought plenty of older corvettes with higher miles and the most I did to them was simple tune up parts, wires etc, and fluid changes.
You need to keep an eye on the engine hoses they do get brittle, more so if you drive with the AC on constantly, other than maintainance items coat the weather stripping with silicone grease once a year if you let your car stand in the sun all day everyday a little more often wouldn't hurt at all.

Don't like American Cars? How about buying a Toyota! I have always owned American Cars with very few problems, my wife on the other hand is like you saying that she doesn't like the reliability of American Cars so she drives foreign cars (right now a Mercedes). If added up, I guarantee you the maintenance and repair bills are at least double that of my American Cars. Granted, she gets treated better at the service department of the foreign dealership, but she should, considering how much money we've given them.

'08 with zero costs other than mods and normal maintenance. Getting ready to spend around $2k on tires and alignment but have gotten over 20k miles on OEM GY RF so I don't feel too bad.

With 28K miles on my 06 coupe, I've had to buy 3 new tires from the local dealership - no discount tire store nearby. It cost me about $1200 for the 3 tires, including balancing and mounting. 2 of those tires were to replace 2 that wore out, the 3rd one was because of an unseen pothole.
No other major expenses in almost 4 years.

Totally How do ya like your Toyota now folks? Myself and my family have owned at least a dozen Chevys with no major issues, throw in a 01 Mustang Cobra no issues. Currently own an 07 Z w/15K no issues just tires. My DD is an Audi Quattro AWD, (better MPG than any 4x4), is the only reason that ones foreign and there was no Caddy cts awd at the time to sway me or I'd have one.

My last Corvette (2005) had 68K miles on her when I traded her in. She went back to the dealer once for a noisy rearend. I was so impressed with the reliability that I just bought another Corvette (2010 4LT). I can't imagine any car being more reliable than a C6. From my experience, the "foreign cars are more reliable" concept is hogwash.

Bought a new 2008 Coupe in April, 2008. Great car, most fun for the buck ever. Biggest expense so far is dealing with the Autogeek web site, can become an addiction.
