Default LED fog lights

so... Who is going to be the first brave soul to try these out in their fog lamps?
http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/D...-p8022474.html

Here is a video of a gmc pickup with the LEDs as the fog lights:
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1269877593765
14 watts of light each is pretty bright. How many watts are the stockers?

I recently started switching out my lights for LEDs. I just changed the DRL/turn signals to switch backs and want my fog lights to match the color temp of the switchbacks. I know most guys go for HID kits but I was interested to know if anyone had tried any alternatives such as these LED lights. If not, has anyone tried replacement bulbs in the 5k-6k color range instead of an HID kit?

If it's bright enough, not a bad alternative to the HID setup. I'm interested also to know who else have them installed.

HIDs will put out much more light, however these will light up the housing nicely. in other words if youre looking at the car from the outside It will appear to have HIDs, but there will likely be less light output than HIDs. HIDs are not a diffuclt process at all, especially since 99& of kits out there are plug and play. But Id be interested in trying thes LEDs out.

A set of HIDs today are about 75-80 bucks... You can mount the balasts right in top of the fog light housing inside the bumper!! It was piece of cake....

Those look like the LEDs are yellow. Anyone know if they are white LEDs? I wouldn't want to put yellow LEDs in my fogs, maybe my DRL lamps.

Yellow leds are usually white when on.

Those things won't produce much light. They would be for looks.

You need our HID kit for real light

http://www.shop.jwmotoring.com/produ...2&categoryId=6

Our slim ballasts will finally be back in stock next week.

HID kits are easy to install. If you're going to go through all the trouble to install a bulb like that you might as well do the job right with HIDs.

Thanks for this info. I have my HID's but haven't installed them yet. So mounting the ballast on top of the light housing is OK? Do the get hot at all?

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack!

Yes. I mounted mine on the frame inside of the engine bay. The slim ones will fit right by the area where the hood hinge comes down without any clearance issues.

thanks for the info on HIDs guys. I'm not afraid of mounting them, I just have a seriously HUGE obsession with LEDs. Much of the illumination in my house is done by LEDs and you should see my tactical flashlight collection.

I agree with what others have said, It won't be as bright as HIDs, thats obvious. But if these LEDs are anywhere near the stock brightness, I'll get them in a heartbeat, based solely on my love of LEDs.

@SilverScorp: Yep, what JW said. Those are white, its just that SMT diodes look yellow when off.

I installed the kit from JW Motoring and they are so much better than stock. I mounted the ballast on the side of the housing and it was a snap, I recommond the JW Motoring kit can't be beat.

I totally agree with the HID's.....

I had put a few of the cheap ones in my car from eBay and they were inconstant, one day the ballast worked and the next day it didn't. So I switched all my cars over to JW's HID's and I haven't had an issue sense. They look amazing in my Lexus and Vette for Fogs and Low beam.

wow! i'm glad someone finally chimed in. Thanks for your insight. I agree, those look great but don't seem bright enough. I'm still curious if the v-leds i linked to would be bright enough (comparable to stock) considering they are 28 diodes at 0.5 watts each (14 watts for the each fixture). For anyone into LEDs, thats a pretty impressive number. The wattage of the ones you tried are 3 watts for the whole fixture. But once again Cambovette, thanks for being the first brave one of us when it comes to this.

It's starting to seem that no one has tried these so I may go ahead and make them my next mod in the coming weeks.

I'm reviving this thread because I'm curious if any of you have tried the new line of LED's that are out there now. I came across these, and they seem to be what I'm looking for. Anyone tried them, or something similar?
