Help! My targa top won't quit squeaking....
I have an 09 with the standard removable targa top.....It started squeaking pretty bad about 2 months ago and hasn't stopped. The squeaking it on the drivers side in the front....does anyone know what is causing this or how I can fix this?

There are a bazillion posts and comments about this. One note: I tried all three fixes for the latches (original, expoxied, flat roller) and it did not solve the problem. I even put on a new roof. I found that by relearning the "up" position of the window with a piece of craft paper at the top the squeak went away.
My permenant fix on my '08 was to put some silicone lube at the large portion of the rubber seal at the top/front/outboard area. Then I relearned the "up" position with the window fully up and no shim at the top. It has been o.k. since the summer of '08.

Some will just creak and crack no matter what "fixes" you use. I've had much better luck with the transparent tops not creaking.
But tightening the latches is what worked for me

Lots of threads on top noises... definitely look at this one:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...long-post.html
My 09 was perfect when new. After a year or so, it got noisy. Fixed it myself by following the lubrication instructions (post #2) in the above thread.
I used Super Lube ($6 from Ace Hardware), some clean rags & Q-tips. Put the top on soft blankets & carpet for easy access.
A year later, mine got noisy again. Fixed it again the same way.
That is, IMO the top needs routine maintenance lubrication.
Doubt you'll have to replace hardware on an 09. But I'd try lubrication first -- you'll likely need to do it anyway.
And a cautionary tale about over-lubing by a dealer:

They replaced the hardware on my '09 I guess the terminology they used of a "RECALL" was wrong. Anyway I had to use the super lube as per GM instructions to get the roof from making noise completely.

Summer heat may be the reason
there are tons of info in the FAQ section of this forum. There is also info in your manual regarding the silicon lube you can use.
No matter what u do its going to make some noises in the Summer time due to thermal expansion of different plastics rubbing against each other. They also mention this in the FAQ section. Good luck.

Try living on an all weather gravel road in TX talk about dust ! I have to clean and lube the rubber weather striping on a regular basis.

Melting Slicks
However, some cars were built better than others. The cars that were built well, will make an occational squeek and creak, mostly due to expansion and body flex, but for the most part will stay quiet with the help of some lube.
Unfortunatelly, the cars that have poorly aligned tops will not be so easily fixed. If the roof is not sitting correctly on the car, there is probably not too much you can do that will provide a lasting solution. I had an 08 with that issue. For about a year, I've tried various methods to see if I can eliminate the squeek - silicone/super lube, adjusting the latches, adjusting the door window, adjusting the rear guide pins, nothing would cure the problem for long.
For me the noise came from the left corner of the top where it met the window. With the window slightly open the noise was not there, with the window up it sounded like chirping birds made a nest in my car. Even with a thick glob of grease it was there, and yes, like I said I did try adjusting the window...
Anyway, there was no happy ending to the story - I just got fed up with it and traded it in for another car, losing a ton of money on the deal...
Hope you have a better ending

Ok, I was determined over the weekend to fix my glass top. The squeaks and popping was driving me insane.
I took the top off and lubed everything! The one thing that I noticed was the front post on the drivers side was loose. I tightened it and lubed the latch and the two front posts on the top itself. Low and behold, my top is silent and sounds as solid as the day I brought it home......hopefully it will last.

All, thanks for all the advice and opinions. I was busy last weekend so I am going to try the lube some time this week. I will keep you updated on the results. I have noticed that it really only squeaks if I leave it out in the sun and it gets hot, it's not very noticeable right after I pull it out of the garage when it is cool.

Please have a look at my thread that others have linked above. If you have any specific questions, feel free to contact me either via PM or via email.
