How to check the fault-codes of the C6 (and C5)?
Hi guys,
I live in Belgium and have a 2004 C5 and a 2008 C6. Yeah, yeah, very expensive to keep here with fuel at around $ 8,-/gal. But.. one only lives once, right ! Some years ago somebody on the forum uploaded a document to me, which described how I could call up the system error codes via the switches at the instrument panel, see what the meaning of these codes were and even re-set these. Would somebody have this for me again, now for both the C5 and C6 ??
Thanks
Alex

For your C5 (ONLY)
1) Turn the key to the ON position, but don't start the engine.
2) Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button.
3) Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. This will get you into the CODES section of the DIC.
The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created.
It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds.
Any code that ends in H is a history code (something that has occured in the past) but is fine now.
Once the computer has finished going through all of it's codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode.
It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# CODES".
To optionally reset the codes once in manual mode
1) Press and hold RESET until it displays "NO CODES".
2) Press OPTIONS to go to the next module.
Repeat the steps in this paragraph until you have reset the codes in all the computer modules.
NOTE !! Only reset the codes IF you want to - it is NOT necessary to do this.
For you C6
You will need to purchase a code reader if you'd like to do this yourself.

All of the above replies sound about right to me, and the C6 definitely need's a scan tool. These tool's work on your C5 too. I have an Auto X-Ray 6000 unit that is more deluxe than most, but has a good computer interface and software. They make less expensive model's, but not sure what feature's you'll give up. Either way, you can go to Auto X-Rays web sight and look up trouble code's generated from most scanner's. If you choose one of their tools, search around, as I've seen these discounted quite a bit. Also, if your car's are Euro spec, some of what's been said here, may not mean very much. Good luck.

I can only speak for the U.S but most inexpensive or moderately priced code readers only read the codes mandated by the EPA which are emission related codes. You won't get codes from things like the SIR module, BCM, DCM, etc. You need to buy an expensive reader or get a Tech II to read all the codes.

There are a lot of sites that have DTC's. Here are a couple.
