Default Escort Super Cup Windshiel Mount Flaw

I just thought I would pass along an issue I have with the new windshield mount for the Escort radar detector. I was hitting second gear fairly hard, and the radar detector came flyint out of the mount. Mind you the mount is still on the windshield. Ripped the connections out of the rearview mirrow hook up, and fortunately didn't break anything else as it bounced around the console. I compared it to the original suction cup hook up and the thickness of the metal where it attaches is different, and the new one only has one notch instead of two. I would highly recommend you don't buy one of these until they get it right. I sent them a message and I'm waiting on their reply.

If your saying that your Escort 'slid' off the mount, maybe you didn't make sure that the interior 'catch' (that is controlled by the button on the top of the Escort) was actually secured in the notch on the metal holder.

I have two of those new mounts on my Corvette and Acura and so far they have worked great.

I was just about to get one as part of their $59 upgrade to current version offers.....
So who is right....flawed design or faulty use?

No problem with mine. It's totally secure and works way better than the original suction cup mount. I use the Great Lakes mirror mount on my Vette, but use the Super Cup mount on my daily driver Malibu. I wouldn't leave home without it.

The problem is that the latch doesn't fit as secure in this mount. I can literally pull it out of the latch with some effort. In any other car it would be fine, but I have a manual transmission in my vette, and when I nail second gear, that's more than it can handle. My original latch fits much tighter, as I can't pull it out of that one.

I've owned an escort for years...great product and saved me many times! BUT...it's time for them to step up and make a decent mount, they all SUCK! I have their visor mount and I can't lock it in place. C'mon ESCORT, get with the program

You either have a problem with your mount or your Escort. I have the Escort 8500 X50 and my Super Cup latches securely. I can hear it click in place when I insert it onto the arm. I pulled very hard and it is not coming off until I push the release button.

If you can hang in there another month or two, I think you'll be seeing a whole new C6 mount being offered for Escort radar detectors. I hope to be testing a prototype very soon.

I wish mine did. It's click's in place and then with a little effort I can pull it out. It does not do that on the old mount.

I did get to talk to someone at Escort today and they were very accomodating. They are sending me a new mount. I'll see what happens then.
Thanks

Escort's a great company, they may have just underestimated the forces being applied.

Well, I got my new mount and same problem. They are telling me now that it must be a problem with the latch in the radar detector. Mind you the problem doesn't happen with my old mount, but this is becoming a challenge. I'm sending them my radar detector and paying them $25 to fix it. Should we start laying down the bets as whether this is going to work or not? I'm skeptical, but hopeful.

I have an Escort 8500 and a Solo 2, and two of the NEW Super Cup (flip lock) mounts. Both of my detectors lock into the mounts just fine. They're not coming off unless I push the lock button on the top of the detector.

Well for what it's worth, I thought I would finish the story. I sent my radar detector back to Escort as they said they could fix it so the lock would hold tight. I just got it back, and same issue. Now, I'm sure the majority of people won't have the problem I have. I have a manual transmission, and if I'm power shifting from first to second, it flies off. (please no comments of my style of driving. To me it's a sports car and that's how I choose to drive it.)
I will say this, I cannot fault their customer service. They sent me another mount, no questions asked. They sent me back my radar detector with another powercord, and the original style mount as well. I'm sure they didn't make money on this with me. I visited with them on the phone and they were great. Only problem is that there mount does not work for my style of driving. I did compare the original style mount with the new suction mount and it does appear that the metal tab that locks in is thicker. I think that has something to do with it, as the original style mount locks in better.
