I don't dispute the LS3 is slightly faster than the LS2 and 'your results may vary' but it's interesting to note the performance figures for the 2005 LS2 equipped C6 both from General Motors and in the following chart showing times achieved by Car & Driver and Road & Track magazines:
This is from a GM press release on the LS2 equipped 2005 Corvette C6 (note: 0 to 62 mph):
"Acceleration:
The 2005 Corvette reaches zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds. With the optional Z51 Performance Package, 0-100 km/h acceleration time improves to 4.1 seconds.
The 2005 Corvette covers the quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds at a speed of 183 km/h (114 mph)."
The following chart showing Car & Driver/Road & Track times:
The information is taken from the Corvette Action Center website. The GM performance figures are undoubtedly ideal and less likely to be achieved in the real world. The CD and RT figures are probably much more realistic. Taken at face value it would seem the LS2 is comparable (or slightly faster) than the LS3 from 0 to 60 but the LS3 pulls on the LS2 in the 1/4 mile by a couple tenths.
The Corvette Action Center performance chart (I looked at) on the 2008 LS3 contained less results but it showed a Road & Track 1/4 mile time of 12.6/115.7. This is an identical time (achieved by RT) in the 2005 LS2 but was a couple mph faster as it crossed the line.
I'm not a drag racer but I found the figures/results comparing the two engines interesting. I wonder what GM listed as their official 0 to 60 and 1/4 times for the LS3?
