Default c6 FOB shell broke...

I was going to change the battery in FOB #1 and when I popped it apart I broke the little button that releases the key. Everything else still works but now I need to replace the black casing.

Anybody know where I can buy a #1 fob case and not spend $100+ on a whole new fob / key? Got a bad fob you cant use? Help a brother out.

The dealership may replace it under warranty.

If not it will be expensive. If it isn't something you can live with I'd try the-auction-site-that couldn't-be-mentioned-until-it started-advertizing-here. If you go that route you need to do a complete programming to get the right FOB number.

Both of my 08' shells broke and the dealership won't replace under warranty-despite the fact #1 was clearly disintegrating. Number still is holding together despite the cracks. By the way, these shells are very cheap and brittle plastic. The shells for the 05 where much stronger, hsving shown no issues like the 08's

mine is 06 and the fobs have taken a beating! My buddies 08 with the new style fob has cracked twice.... both times replaced by the dealer but sooner or later.......

I was thinking about changing to the new style but not now... Sometimes newer isn't better...

Default Broke mine, too......

Same thing with my 08 fob #1. Tried to change the battery, the little button broke off, and the metal clip at the front broke out.

Due for service soon, I'll see if the dealer will replace it on warranty. Otherwise, $100 from several of the vendors here.

Just noticed another cracked 08 fob. This is the third one to crack. They were replaced under warranty the first two times, but the bumper to bumper warranty is now over. 95% of the time my fob is in my briefcase. What a piece of crap!

Anyone get one replaced under the GM extended warranty?

You can get an overlay for your '08 C6 FOB that will completely enclose the FOB except for the buttons on one side and the logo on the other; there's a front half and a back half (it's a clam shell). It only covers the plastic portion of the FOB and there is a cutout slit for the key release buton exactly the correct size and shape. I've got one on my # 1 FOB and it looks completely factoy. You can get them in black or match your car's body color. I got mine from Corvette Central. It is in their catalog under "Key Remote Cover" and it is part # 106823-12 (Gloss Black; I have a black car). I paid $14.95 and am going to order another one for FOB #2. Try it, think you'll like it.
