What To Do If Car Can't Be Repaired..Need Advice
Some of you may have been following my vert top posts.
The toneau most times will not close once the top is down. Sometimes it works as it should. When the situation happens, the top will not go back up. The toneau covers just sticks up in the air.
2 dealers have worked on this problem. Various switches and the latch assembly have been replaced. I picked the car up today from the dealer, drove it home, and the problem still persists.
I am the second owner of the car, but it still has factory warranty wiith only 14k miles. The dealer that did the repair this week advised me to bring the car back on Monday.
Has anyone here had a problem that could NOT be fixed? Do I have any options at this point?
Thanks

Sorry to hear about this. Wish I had a good answer for you but it sounds like you are going about it the right way. They just need to work a bit more to solve the issue. If sensors and latches have been replaced, I would suggest they look more at the brains behind it all, whatever that is. I can only assume they have reset all the windows, etc after replacing things.

No other issues. Just what appears to be on and off (most of the time) top issues. I have read many of the top posts on this board and I have never read of anyone else having the same toneau cover issues as I'm having. Thanks again.

I had a new '09 Z51 Roadster....NEVER had any problems with it and the guy who bought it from dealer I do business with (I met buyer-and keep in contact w/him-I live in north Texas-he and wife flew in from Pheonix and road tripped from DFW back to Az.) has had ZERO problems with it....I'll bet it has to do with the 'brain' of the system.....if other stuff (such as sensors-motors etc) has been checked/replaced.....sorry to hear this....hang in there bud....this will get fixed and I'm sure you;ll have NO other problems.....best wishes....keep us posted...

no, I don't have any great ideas. I would suggest two things: maybe yet another dealer, someone who possibly knows more about how to adjust/fix the top mechanism; and, get the Cust. Svc. guy here on CF involved, geoff allen.
I realize it's used, not new, but maybe there's something he can suggest/find out about. short of that, hopefully, the techs at the two dealers HAVE been in touch with someone back in detroit. if not, you need to keep looking for the dealership techs that either can/know what to do, or know when/where to ask for help.
hope it works eventually. you might also start calling indie shops for top replacement and see who/which knows anything about C6 top adjustment.

Definitely keep records of all interactions with the dealership. If they say they have "tried replacing part xxxxx", make sure it's noted on a printed work order that you keep a copy of. This will help document further repair efforts if you have to take it to a different dealer, and in the event you need to pursue it further with GM directly.
Good luck with getting it fixed. I once had a Mitsubishi Galant die on me, and the dealers that I took it to basically said it couldn't be fixed. I was so PO'ed about the whole thing I just towed it in for a trade in... didn't care how much I got for it, just didn't want to deal with it any longer. that was in my younger, impetuous days.

Possible but doubtful. I believe in most states the problem has to be of a type that makes the vehicle unsafe to operate. Here is how it is defined for Iowa:
"After three attempts have been made to repair the same nonconformity that substantially impairs the motor vehicle, or after one attempt to repair a nonconformity that is likely to cause death or serious bodily injury"
I don't think a problem with a convertible top would meet the test of causing death, serious bodily injury, or that it stubstantially impairs the motor vehicle.

Not true. Any issue which affects the usability/value may be covered under a lemon law.
First thing is go online to your state's web site to get the exact terms of the local law. Make sure you document everything, especially all of the terms that are required under the lemon law. Hire an attorney, if you run into any issues you cannot resolve quickly. Both my sister and myself have had cars bought back under lemon laws. They do work, but only if you go through all of the required steps.

EuroRod:
I suspect you are onto something. The previous owner had the car about 2 years and and had the top "fixed" about a month before he got rid of it. His dealer did the repairs. My dealer is now working on the same problems.
Norty:
Thanks for the tip.

Lemon Law
It appears in Texas the original owner has to own the car. At least that's how I interpret what I read. The car is still under factory waranty though.
Thanks all.

What did his dealer do to repair top?

Just throwing out an idea...I'm wondering if a completely new ECM would solve this? Maybe they could try this quickly by trading one out with a new or used Corvette on the lot.

Contact C4C5Specialist
Contact C4C5Specialist on the website Norty stated or on Corvette Action Center (CAC).....he is EXCELLENT Vette Tech....lets say he's the type that distingushes himself between the two titles "mechanic" or "technician". He is a Technician....I've never saw him give bad advice and is the type if he don't know he will tell you and also does his own statistics etc....good luck....(if contact on CAC tell him 'orange09Ntexas' told you to ask him about your issue) best wishes
