Howto fix a C6 CD Player that no longer reads CDs.
Thought I'd post this here in case anyone else has had this issue.
Problem:
My cd player on my C6 (navi bose), would not recognize CDs anymore, nor play them. Also when the car shutoff and it had recognized a CD, it would forget the CD was in there and I would have to eject the cd and put it back it; when it would sometimes acknowledge the CD, but usually not.
Solution:
I bought a $20 CD Player lens cleaner CD Disc from a local supermarket.
After running the cleaner CD a few times the problem was fixed.
The problem was a dirty lens, and the CD cleaner disc fixed my Bose Navi CD Player back to full functionality.

Sounds like a logical common situation, but I didn't think of this solution at first. So if your CD Player has stopped recognizing CDs perfectly, your first step should be a Lens cleaner disc. (It is just a CD with bristles on the part of the CD where the lens is, that clean the lens.)
-- Note on buying the right one
Make sure to buy a CD cleaner disc for specifically a CD player. They had a 'premium' model that also cleaned DVD players and newer video game systems, but the position of the Lens is different on those and probably would not clean, and could potential damage the CD player lens.

Thanks very much, will give this a try and report back. I have the exact same problem, especially when it does not recognize a CD that I previously played during the prior driving session. Cheers!

When I bought my C6 last month, I had the same issue. Being old enough to have grown up with CD's, I was familiar with this solution. Bought one online and walaa! Solved the issue.
Still thinking about replacing the unit next year, but for now all's good.
