Reverse Camera
OK, I am getting ready to order a few new parts for my 2011 GS with NAV. One being the Lockpick 360 so I can add a backup camera. I had a backup cameras in my 2002 and would not want to do without it. So I decided to order the camera and wanted to pass along a few import cameras that are under $30 and work really well. The camera are OEM replacement units and I found with my 02 they work great and offer the parking lines. It takes a few weeks to arrive but they are a great alternative to the license plate mounted cameras. The Ebay link is here. Ebay Reverse cameras
I like to choose any camera that has two holes which makes it easier to secure the camera to the rear bumper of the Vette. The cameras designed to mount so the lense is pointed directly to the rear is the best choice. Some camers will mount to the surface with two screws and some will require a hole cut into the bumper for proper installation. I have included a pic from my install on my 02. Camera display was great.

Did you cover the trunk key opening? How often do you back up to need this? I backup once a day to get in my garage and my only wish is the right mirror was flat instead of the rounded one for blind side viewing.

I installed a lockpick in my C6 several months ago. I used the camera which mounted across the top of the tag using the same mounting points.
I am quite please with it.

Wow. Cool! I'm going to put this on my Christmas list, only I want it on my H3 Hummer!
I had it at the dealer one day and my loaner H3 had a backup camera. I really liked it, and this looks like a VERY reasonably priced option.
Thanks!

I only have a pic from my setup in the 02. I used a Magellan 1700 which was a 7" with AV input. The pic has a sun spot on it but the quality for a backup camera is great.
I ordered a new camera but have not installed it in the new 2011 (on order). My build date is the week of X-Mas. I know it takes several weeks to get the camera in from China so I ordered it early.

i gotcha...
didnt realize it was a c5, hence my lock question. didnt even see the reverse lights in the first pic. the top right part of the grab handle in the dash in the 2nd pic was what tipped me off...then went back and reread the first post and saw the 02 part
nice mod! thanks for the pics

Le Mans Master
I installed a similar ebay camera a while ago but I shifted it to one side to not cover up the trunk popper. I run i to my Pioneer AVIC D2 which has the input for it. Already having the Pioneer it was a great ~$20 mod!

I installed the camera that's mounted on the plate bracket. It costs a little more money but the night vision is top notch. How is your camera at night? I know some are very shadowy and don't do so well.

Can someone post the Lockpick 360 install instructions for the C6 ? I am interested , but I understated there is a ribbon cable that needs to be replaced. Want to see the process before I pull the trigger.

Lockpick 360 is a plugin harness and electronics which allows Corvette OEM NAV units to display an image from an external source like a camera. When you switch into reverse the camera is displayed on the NAV screen. It does a bunch of other things like allows 60 sec for nav input while driving. See Lockpic web site for what it does. I cannot find the Lockpick 360 installation instructions anywhere on the web.

The cameras are NTSC so any input like a GPS or any device capable of displaying NTSC video will work. The night vision is builtin to the cameras and works well. Once it gets dark the display shows black and white image. The display is not as clear as daytime but the reverse lights give it the needed light to see.
You can see the video specs when you click on any of the cameras in my ebay link above. The most important specs are the ones I included below. One standard used with OEM cameras is the IP Rating. See the Wiki for further description. Any camera that does not have a IP rating has not gone through the testing. For example the IP rating for the camera specs below is 67 which the 6 is Dust tight and the 7 is Immersion up to 1 m. These are just standards so you know it won't fill up with water next car wash.

The camera I am getting for the 2011 GS is below. It is a BMW X5 camera which requires 25mm hole drilled to install. The benefit is it allows adjustment.

Really C L. I have a back-up camera on the CTS Sport Wagon and by habit start looking for it when I'm in the vette, I miss it.
I believe I heard that all new vehicles will be mandated to have b/u camera's by 2013.
