If the Z06 has the factory warranty or is GM certified then get the Z....or if you plan to track the car get the Z......if just a cruiser get the GS

I'm fortunate to be able to buy any Corvette, and I did drive each version. The ZR1, incredibly fast, but I couldn't get past the carbon fiber 2 tone or the clear hood window, and way too much car for the street (temptation, you know, I just had an insanely fast "toy" ), the ZO6, loved it, but same thing as the ZR1, a bit too much temptation. The GS, I loved it, and it's just a bit more "driver friendly". I'm an experienced road racer and a good shoe in a GS will handle an average one in a ZO6, I've seen it done. I haven't tracked mine yet, but I will. The Spring Mountain School in Nevada just replaced their fleet of C6 Z51's with new Grand Sports, and I recently visited the school, and the Chief Instructor tabbed the GS as his favorite weapon, and yes, their fleet includes both ZO6's and ZR1's as well, ask him why he prefers the GS. It's all in personal preference, but I bought the GS, and no regrets at all, I love the car.

You will be seeing lots of GSs on the road this year because they are great cars You don't see nearly as many Zs not that they are not great cars because they are. But the z performance is over the top for a street car

My question is do you want to be one of the crowd? Or do you want to stand out and over the top? ( I like over the top and standing out )

No bad choice here both are great cars that will go over the posted limit at anytime

Hell, they are both nice car's. But, on a personal level, I would go with the new GS. Reasons...new car and never been driven and don't need to worry about how the pre-owned Z was maintained or driven. Don't need the extra HP, never race or track my car's, 436 HP is plenty of power. I Like the removable top vs. fixed. He will have one year less depreciation, when traded, with the new GS. With exception of the side fins, they are identical body styles. I would rather pocket the $6K difference.

Good Luck to your cousin.

He has to drive both and then decide. I've owned a used Z06 for almost 2 years now and the car has been fantastic, racked up nearly 22,000 miles since taking ownership and it's needed nothing but fluid changes. The LS7 is truly one of the great all-time NA engines built by GM, if he values this fact, he'll appreciate owning a Z06.

If you want the power and light weight with warranty 'go with the Z06. I had a 05 Z51 would never take a step back . My $.02

Here is the problem. The dealer will sell him the used 2010 Z06 for only $6,000 more than the 2011 Grand Sport. He does not know what would be the better decision. He is concerned that the Z06 is going to be cancelled in the near future or the performance will be raised a lot due to the popularity of the Grand Sport. This would drop the value of the Z06 even further. He is leaning toward the Grand Sport simply because it is a 2011. I think he should get the Z06 just because its a Z06 but it is a year old and I think that concerns him. I think the 2011 Z06 has tire and exhaust changes only. I don't know if the transmission changed between 2010 and 2011. Maybe someone else knows.

He would appreciate any comments either way to help his decision.
Looks like cold weather is making a lot of people grumpy.

Both are fantastic cars. I've owned both and they each have their own unique qualities. You want a race car? Get the Z. If you want a good compromise to a Z06, the Grand Sport is a good choice. Has a lot of the looks but isn't the same as far performance, but add a few mods and it's right there with the Z. Either way, don't EVER look at these cars as an investment. They are a toy, plain and simple.

Based completely on value alone.

If he is going to race regularly and is a good driver get a z. If he goes once maybe twice a year, GS. The GS will allow you to take the car to the limit more due to the less power. The Z is an animal and takes a good driver to master her (from what I have seen).

Second, Does he like to cruise with the top of with his significant other listening to the tunes and enjoying the wind in his hair? If so get the GS.

I got the GS for that reason only. I like to drive and enjoy the moment (not that you can't in a z06 but power is not a concern at that point. I don't go out and race people regularly just a few friends or the over cocky BMW. Soon, I will drop and exhaust and 100 shot in her and she will put 95% of cars in the mirror. So just choose what you like best because performance can always be added.

Also the GS has the option of Automatic/Convertible if those items are a concern. If he really wants to stand out -ZR1!!!!!

This may sound weird, but 8,000 miles is probably high for 2010 Z06. There are a lot of people who buy these cars and don't drive them. I say he needs to drive both and go from there. I personally am jonesing for a Z06, but I think my next Vette with have the F55, which limits the choices. If they cancel the Z06, or go with a smaller supercharged engine in the next version, prices for these cars will go up rather than down in the long run.

As others here have already shown, strong arguements can be made for either choice. If options or colors don't favor one car over the other, I'd go with the new GS. I've just never been one to buy a pre-owned car; theres a lot of enjoyment in knowing that no one else has owned the car and that's a pleasure that I'm willing to pay for.

If ride quality is important, with a 2011, he can get the adjustable suspension on the GS...

If he wants Automatic = GS
If he wants stick = Z06
If he wants Convertible = GS

I would go Z06 - no mods ever needed - it is a beast

Not that bad on miles. My 2010 GS already has 10k miles and that's pretty much driving to work, couple trips to the mountains, and a summer vacation.
