Default Non-runflat tires on run-flat rims?

Okay I've read that you're not supposed to change run flat tires to non run flat tires and keep the same rim. Something about the rim being designed specifically for run flat use only and could be damaged if used with non run flat tires. But with the C6, is it okay to use the stock rim with non run flat tires?

Not a problem at all, literally thousands of C5/C6 owners have changed to non run flats on stock rims with zero issues.
I know the Honda Odyssey has unique rims, but the Vette is not an issue at all.

What constitutes a "run-flat rim?"

I dunno, ask honda odyssey.

otherwise, edPA is correct for our C6s and most cars.

I couldn't tell you....I've never heard of a runflat (only) rim). If I was guessing, it might be a weaker rim that relies on the stiff sidewall of the runflat tire to protect the integrity of the wheel (an Un-SWAG).

nah uh.. if anything, the rim is beefier to support the load of the vehicle with the flat tire now that the air is gone from the tires chamber, which supports the load normally.

My 06 when purchased used had non run flats on it and then I changed over to run flats. No problems at all.

Here is a website articles stating you can't use non run flat tires on run flat rims:

The PAX system on the Honda is not the same as our runflats at all.

And, the system will be a pain just like the TRX system was a couple of decades ago. You will forever be limited to the few PAX system tires available. Bad idea....

I'm going to replace the stock GY runflats on my 2009 base c6 coupe. Probably going with Nitto Invos. What's the recommended 18/19 tire size for the Invos? Thanks!

Read all the posts on this and have a question. Has anyone experienced a sudden flat of a non-run flat tire? Did you have any damage to the rim and how did you deal with the situation assuming that you didn't have a repair kit/pump/etc?

I ask because our 05 has non-run flats that are nearly new - I'll replace them with run flats when the time comes.

TIA

No such thing as "run flat rims".....I've swapped out the GY Supercar run flats for Nitto Invo's (non-run flats) with no problems at all. Just carrying a plug kit & small 12v compressor.

Yes, I have had a sudden flat on a non run flat tire. Ran over a piece of metal that cut the sidewall of the tire. Since it was the left rear tire the car got a little squirlley before I could get stopped.

The guy I sold my 03Z to got a flat tire on the right rear of the car after crossing a railroad track. He tired to drive a couple hundred feet to a safe place along side the road and ruined the tire. The rim cut the inside of the tire sidewall but the rim itself wasn't damaged.

Actually, the salesman who designed non-flat rims is the same guy who invented the Honda and Toyota in which the motor falls to the ground when that brand of vehicle is involved in a front end accident. I suspect the following:

1. that salesperson sold a few million cars.

or

2. that salesperson alienated a bunch of customers with his/her lies.
