Grand Sport Package
In addition to all the standard features in the Grand Sport Package when ordering a Coupe or Convertible, the Coupe with manual transmission also gets the dry-sump oiling system, differential cooler and a rear-mounted battery.
Understand that with the Convertible the battery cannot go in the trunk which means the dry-sump oiling system can't go under the hood.
Here's my question though. In the GS Coupe, when fitted with the manual transmission and dry sump, the engine gets a "forged" crankshaft and is "hand" built at the Wixom plant along with the LS7 and LS9 engines.
Does the GS Convertible also get the Forged Crankshaft?
If you have any thoughts of adding either an Edelbrock or GMPD Eaton supercharger the "forged" crankshaft would definitely be the way to go.
So does anybody know what crank is in the GS Convertible?

Also, the reason the M GS got the forged crank in the first place is because of the extended spindle on the front that drives the oil pump for the dry sump system. The tooling for that was already in place at the Wixom plant for the Z06 and ZR1.

As far as FI goes. The LS3 is a high compression engine, not a good choice for FI. The LS9 (ZR1) has a much lower compression ratio, hence better for FI.
Even if you had the forged crank that comes in the GS manual. The LS3 has cast pistons, heavy rods, wrong cam, wrong piston rings, wrong rod length for a long term FI application.
If all it took to add a supercharger on a LS engine was a forged crank, GM would not have spent all the time and money on designing the LS9.

Equally impressive, the LS-9 is designed as a 100,000 mile supercharged motor. It has been my experience the more HP you try to squeeze out of a motor, the shorter the lifespan. By the time you turn an LS-3 into an LS-9, you might as well by the LS-9 in the first place, in fact you may want to break into your piggy bank and go for the ZR-1, it will already have the high performance drive train to deal with all that extra horsepower.

The GS convertible gets a cast iron crank. The manual GS coupe gets a forged crank.
