Default Why was 0ption GU2 2.73 rear axle ratio deleted for 2010-2011 base coupes and verts?

Option GU2 2.73 rear axle ratio available on base coupes and verts from 2008-2009 with the A6 was deleted for 2010 -2011 base verts and coupes with the A6 anyone no why? I know you can still get the 2.73 gears standard on A6 grand sport coupes and verts .

Maybe because the GS has a wider bodystyle and the big braking system?

Because GM wants you to buy the more expensive GS

So they can claim the G/S is faster 0-60 MPH than the base coupe?

The GS is the old Z-51 option and costs $$$$ more.

Although the GS is a great road course or autocross car, it's additional weight, aerodynamic drag, and rolling resistance; work against acceleration. A Z51 A6 2.73 might show better 0-60 or 0-1/4 times than a GS. That would be a real problem, so GM made the base C6 a bit slower by eliminating the Z51 option with it's deeper transmission or axle gearing.

A cheap shot by GM, in my opinion.

I guess I would not assign quite so evil intent to GM. I think that the axle ratio just went away simply because the Z51 option package went away.

Na, I was able to get the 2.73 and no Z51 package, GS is the reason I believe

Really? I too thought it was part of the Z51, and not a stand alone option.

Nope! I have 2.73's gears as a stand alone ($395).

The 2.73 axle was available as a separate option 2008-2009, and the same parts are still used in the GS; keeping it as an option for the base Corvette would have been easy.

There is much more to a sports car than acceleration, but that's a number many people look at first. Not good to have a base car that might out-accelerate the more expensive GS.

Most auto mags rated the manual transmission base C6 coupe 0-60mph time at 4.2 to 4.3 seconds. The best 0-60 time Edmund's could get with a manual transmission 2010 G/S was 4.5 seconds. I have yet to see a road test where they were able to get a G/S 0-60mph time of 4.0 seconds or less as claimed by GM. I wonder why.

If the 2.73 gears were only available on base A6 08-09 cars and standard on Z51 08-09 automatic A6 cars I wonder how many people in 08-09 had the 2.73 GU2 option performance axle who did not have the Z51 option ?

I have a vert with 2.73 and F55 in my 08 - it was an option for 08 and of course the A6 - great car, just about 3 years old and sleeping well for the winter.
