Default Steering column lock service message

Need help! My battery died on me due to not driving it for about a month. We've had alot of snow, etc. In any event I discovered this today and once I got it started back up I had to reprogram all of the preset items. That didn't bother me all that much , what does concern me is that the DIC is displaying the following message: " Service Steering Lock" I've never had this problem on my C6 but I did have trouble with it on my C5 where the steering column actually locked up and left me stranded. The dealership could never get it corrected so I had them deactivate it. Have any of you had problems? What was the solutions? My C6 is a 2006.

I thought that the column lock was discontinued following the '05 models? You will need a code reader to get to whatever its complaining about or a trip to the dealer. I suggest the code reader if it'll have the ability to clear the code.

05 is the last year for this and you need a trip to the dealer to take care of it.Not sure if there's a column lock bypass for c6's.Could be the battery is toast, which if it's oem,it probably is.

A very weak battery caused that message on my 05 C6. New battery and message disappeared. I've read of others on this forum having the message when the battery was weak.

I'd start with that and then go get the car reprogrammed at the dealer.

thanks, I feel certain that the battery is a major part of the problem. The previously owner put a "cheap Walmart Everstart battery" in it befor I bought the car.
