FOB - how long has your battery lasted?
original type
uses 3V 2032, in case anybody is wondering
I imagine those of us in cold climate who cannot drive all year, last much longer
anybody know at what voltage, the battery is no longer good?
mine read 2.9V, it's still good

I've changed mine three times on fob number one....but more than likely due to the contacts not making good connection in the fob. I've tweaked them a couple times and all seems fine. I've had mine since April 08. I had trouble in June 10.
My wifes former car...the orginals are still going strong on year 7.

Changed my OEM fob battery from '06 recently because I had to move the fob closer to the door for it to open and I started to get brief 'no fob detected' notices in the DIC.
Cheap, easy and no point in putting it off.

Battery Life
2007 Daily Driver....original battery lasted 3yrs 9 mos. Replacement battery purchased from local Chevy dealer for $8.25.....and they installed in FOB....for as many times that the FOB was used, battery life was excellent.

I don't stockpile batteries. When my extreme pack rat FIL passed away, he had about $30 to $40 worth of batteries that were so old, hardly any of them were still good. Probably saved a whole $15 or $20 if he had used them.

I got almost five years from my original two fob batteries. The car rolled off the line in October of 2004 (2005 coupe) and I swapped out the batteries in both fobs in the summer of 2009.

This is not a big deal. These are available just about anywhere, Wal Mart, Target, any drug store and even the Harley Davidson dealers. As a matter of fact the HD dealer was less than most other places when we needed one on a road trip. Mine lasted four years.

I am seeing the same thing on our 2010 Grand Sport.
While it is not the age of the battery, I believe it is how often it is "used" The car has nearly 67,000 miles on it in 1.5 years

Don't have a clue. I change every two years in both fobs and both cars - regardless of the use. Easier than dealing with a failure.

For what these batteries cost, I just change them out every couple year's and not worry to much about it. My car's an 06' with the older style fob and quite a brute to open/close. Some member's with the newer style fob's report cracking them when DIY, so maybe a few extra buck's at the dealer isn't a bad idea. Also if checking a battery on a common volt meter without a load, really doesn't mean anything.
