Default Voice activation.. uneducated Navigation system.

Finally got around to reading about all the efficient “voice” commands I can use with the Navigation system. Lots of Nav controls can be accomplished by pushing one button and saying a simple command.

Used the Nav system to get over to friend’s place. After the BIG game, hopped in the car ready to head home when remembered.. simply push the button and state “HOME”.. YES! That’ll get me out of this crazy residential area and back to the freeway.

Push the button.. I say “HOME”.. response from system “have added Post Office POI’s to display”.. Huh?

Push little button again.. I say “GO HOME”.. response from system.. “have added Gas Station POI’s to display”.. WHAT!!

Push little button again (wife waits for what she knows is coming next ).. I say.. well that’s definitely not a programmed voice command..

Used the touch screen to get “HOME” ..

Have a feeling voice command won’t be used much.

Anybody else have issues like that??

My experience is that the voice recognition sucks. After adding Blockit sound insulation mats and Michelin tires, our car is significantly quieter and the voice recognition works sometimes, especially at lower speeds and if I speak normally and not try to pronounce the words any more clearly/slowly than when talking to real people. But the system is still embarassingly bad, same as on our previous 2006.

I have almost 100% comprehension. As mentioned above, the system is using the frequencies and timing of those frequencies to determine what the word is. S's are high frequencies and N is a low frequency. Therefor when it asks Yes/No, I say Yesssss or Nnnnoooooh. Not excessively long but consciously emphasizing the high and low frequencies.

I don't use it for all commands because there are just so many commands to remember. My favorites are "Dual/Single Map Mode", "Turn List", "Freeway", "Cancel Destination", Voice Guidance Off/On", Detour", "POI Off" and "Gas".

If you speak in non-standard tones and have non-standard pauses in your words the system gets confused. It goes more on the sound properties of a word and not actually the word its self. This is why speaking slower doesn't work.

I've had voice recognition systems in several cars - they do all suck.

Mine is totally deaf. It asks me to "Please Restate Command" no matter what I say or how I say it. It doesn't hear my wife either.

I have had heated, screaming arguments with my car. People at lights must think I am insane.

Me: "Call Kami"
Vette: "Calling Aunt Kathy.. please say yes or no"
Me "NO"
Vette "Calling Carl.. Please say yes or no"
Me "NO"
Vette "Sorry I didn't get that.. please say a command. I press the button to end this frustration and yell..
" GO F)*$U *$% Yourself.
Vette "Thank you.. Goodbye"

ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!

Have to agree with most here.
...The Nav system is deaf....or could be my Z is too loud.....(love it though)
It does however work very well if you are in a quite garage with the engine off and no place to go...............

Same system as in the 05's, correct? Voice recognition in these might as well be from 1984. I actually forgot about this "feature".

The only command that mine recognizes reliably is "POI Off".

Speech recognition in the Corvette - It's all an exercise in total frustration. I don't even think of using it anymore. If I was a car builder, I'd leave the entire feature out if I found it worked this horribly. It's useless.

If it does not hear your wife it is obvious you have a male corvette.

Nope, she's definitely female because she does have a sweet voice. I just wish I could hear her say something other than "Please Restate Command".

At least you figured out how to get gas stations...

Everytime I would say "gas station" I would get "Thai Restaurants". That was when I quit trying to use it. It took me sometime to get those and public golf courses off of the screen.

There are only a few voice commands I use, as I don't want to have to memorize any/many of the phrases. The ones I use successfully and frequently are:

cancel destination
change to 2d/3d map mode
