Default do I buy an extended warranty

Have an 08 3lt JSB vert with 7500 miles. the 3yr 36k expires 4/22/11. I can buy an additional 6year 60000mi warranty with a $50 deductible for $2200 payable in 16 payments with no interest and can be used at any GM dealer in US (from Autonation). Covers all but routine maintenance tires, oil change, brakes, cosmetic items, battery etc. Transferrable and refundable on a pro-rated usage if I sell or trade. The car has been great so far and I'd like to keep it for a few more years til the C7 is in the 2nd or 3rd yr of production. Is this a smart move or should just rely on the 5yr/100000 factory warranty.

You're gonna get lots of opinions both pro and con. Ultimately you'll have to decide if the peace of mind is worth the $2200.00. I had one on my '03 which I never made a claim on. Considering on getting one for my '08 Z. I'm gonna look at the GM warranty. Gotta be careful about the non GM warranties. You might want to get a quote from Fitchner Chev.

I got an extended for my early '05, and used 3X it's cost! But for later years I would take the small risk and go bare.
Check prices here on the forum with Fitchner before you make any commitment.

Yes, but not the one you're talking about. The dealer cost on a GMPP Major Guard 60 month, 40,000 mile, 0 deductible warranty for your car is $1,090. You will pay $ome $ort of mark up. Buy it by Monday 4/18/2011. The seller will need to verify your odometer reading.

Definitely contact Dennis Fichtner for major savings on the GMPP:

Dennis Fichtner at Fichtner Chev:

Again anyone needing a quote, please send me your VIN and current miles for an accurate quote.

dfichtner@fichtnerchevrolet.com
gmpp@fichtnerchevrolet.com

Whether it's right for you? After you get a quote from Dennis I think it will be easier to determine the cost of "peace of mind" ownership. If you still have a question after that then come back for more opinions, including mine.

PM sent.

I decided on peace of mind. Got a GMPP Major Guard for 36/36 with 0 deductible for $750. Well worth the peace of mind given the level of electronic goodies alone on the vette. YMMV.

I was exactly where you are. My '08 turns "3" just a bit earlier than yours and I had a hard time making up my mind. Wife and I finally decided to go for the peace of mind. That is what insurance is all about anyway. I did the 5 year, 40,000, $100 deductible as it fit ours needs the best. $1200.00.

Of course the '08 will now perform flawlessly for the next five years!!

That is what this kind of insurance does you know.

I've had it on all my Vettes. It's just like life insurance or health insurance. If you never use it then thank God but if you need it man it sure is good to have. Dennis is the best place in the nation to get a GMMP and stay away from those aftermarket ones.

With my just-out-of-basic-warranty '08, I'm banking on the 2 yr powertrain warranty for the big stuff. For electronics, let's just say I'm rollin' the dice... Will let any problems ride unless it seriously affects driveability. If it ends up as a big deal, I'll check for TSBs, then shell out the bucks or trade it...

It's an insurance policy, plain and simple.

For the best price anywhere on a GMPP (best extended warranty, IMHO), contact Forum Vendor Dennis Fichtner.

Email him your VIN and you will get a quote of multiple coverages/deductibles/rates.

Great customer service to go along with the great price.

I bought the 7/70K.

Do it.

A/C compressor goes out once, and you just paid for the entire warranty.

Any number of things are likely to go wrong on a car and be considered "normal breakage" in half a decade and 70-100K miles that would MORE than pay for the warranty.

I've never bought one. Doesn't pay. Many investments give a better return and you'll still have the money.

Doesn't pay...

...do you mean you think the car won't have any issues before 70-80K miles within 7 years, or do you mean to say that the GMPP warranty is "BS" regarding coverage/ease of use?

Just bought my 08 Vette an additional 35/24k/$0 from Dennis yesterday as well... It was a pleasure speaking with him even though it sounded like we had him swamped!
Im with all the others though & suggest going with a GMPP warranty! Its a piece of mind thing, you never know if those other companies will still be around or strapped for cash trying to not approve claims! Either Dennis Fichtner or Gene Culley will give you killer rates!

Looking at his profile, I think the only items on his car that would be covered by warranty are the VIN plate and maybe the wipers.

We bought the GMPP on our 2001 and 2006, "made money" on both of them. Also bought GMPP on our 2009 but it's still under the 3/36, but prices were much lower if purchased just before hitting 12 mo OR 12k miles.

Aside from the bare numbers, I like the ability on vacation to drop the car at any dealer, jump in the free rental car, and say "call me when it's fixed."

Bought a warranty for my 08 Vette from Dennis yesterday too. It is the second warranty I have purchased from him. I agree, a pleasure to do business with him.
