GM Supplier & GM Employee Discount???????
Gents, although I owned a vette and have dabbled around this site for a while my knowlege is lacking. My question is about GM employee/supplier pricing. Are these the same thing? If not how much cash value difference are we talking about? The reason for asking is I would like to buy a new GS but i am coming up about 3-5K short. This additional GM incentive that I do not qualify for would put me in that ballpark. I just read that GM employees can give friends supplier pricing. Is this a tactic that is used on the forum either by members or vendors? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Actually not any insight would be appreciated, only if it is insight that would benefit me would be appreciated. Jusk kidding around with that last line. thanks in advance for your time.

In the past I have used GM's Supplier Discount to buy a new vehicle. In 2006, when I purchased a GMC Envoy, the dealership showed me GM Employee pricing, GM Supplier pricing or we could negotiate for the best deal possible. I chose to use the Supplier pricing, but there was no further discounts or incentives off that. BUT!!! This tactic may not be applicable today nor with a Corvette. If you know someone who is a GM employee or if you have a relative within GM, ask them if they would help you save money, then find out from the GM dealer the various GM pricing plans available.
Also, this website link was posted on the CF earlier this week.........Check it out

Thanks Hutch that clears up some things as I thought this was a dollar discount not a set price discount. So if I am understanding this correctly Supplier pricing is say 40K for X vehicle. I was under the assumprion it was we negotiate to 43k and the supplier discount is 3K totalling 40K.

I can't say what the difference is today but when I bought my 07, I used the supplier discount (GMID at the time) with a certificate from a GM employee and it came to about $500 over invoice and approximattly $6,000 off list, better than any discount I could get through negotiations. Corvettes were selling like hot cakes then (37,000+ 07's sold), not like now. The employee disount was about $2,000 under invoice so you can see that there was a supstantial difference in the two discounts.
Today, because of the slow sales due to economic conditions, I see a lot of discounts and incentives that are better than the supplier discount, if it still exists, usually for dealer stock. I'm not sure what is available if you wanted to order a Vette but an e-mail to some of the Forum Dealers will get you a quick answer. I got mine from MacMulkin Chevrolet in NH because none of the local dealers would handle the supplieres certificate I had which turned out to be the car buying experience I've had.
Hope this helps.

Not sure how it is now. I know things have changed recently. It used to be that Employee pricing was lower than Supplier pricing.
When I ordered my 2010 coupe (in Aug. 2009) from Tommy Jr. of MacMulkin (a forum vendor) I got the Employee price, no questions asked. (Sticker $56,500 - got it for a little under $49,000)
If you are ordering a NEW Corvette, give Tommy Jr. a call. You will get a great price and hassle free transaction.
I took the Museum Delivery and it was a great experience.

I have just gone all through this exercise....
I qualify for Supplier pricing. It is not the same as employee pricing which is a lot better. There is a ~2 - 3k difference between employee pricing and the supplier pricing.
On a vehicle priced out with a 66,080 MSRP.....
At a normal dealer walking off the street and not working hard, a dealer offers 62k for this car.
Supplier Pricing - $56,669 With Feb incentive -4,000 included.
Credit Union Buying service - $55,911 - $56,211
USAA Buying service - $54,911 - 56,011
AAA Buying service - 55,001
All 3 of the buying service numbers were from the same buying service (ZAG). These numbers are done deal numbers. If you change the configuration you get a different discount price accordingly.....
You also get at least 3 dealers who honor these prices, no haggling.
The official rule is you have to settle on a car the dealer has in stock. However, I found a dealer willing to honor the buying service price and order me a car and still honor the buying service price.
With supplier pricing most dealers were willing to deal with a car on anyone's lot and willing to trade for the car you want.
With the Buying service price, the dealers did not want to trade for the car because they make little money on the car because of the GM funny money in the deal is less when dealer trading.
So, if you can swing the Buying service you can actually do better than the GM pricing....
These prices are also very very close to what the forum dealers are offering as well. The only difference is the extra cost of transportation or plane tickets to go get your car which may or may not change the deal for you.
If anyone wants more information PM me. I spent two months working on this and this is what I found. This is all based on February incentives which will be different by the time you take delivery if you order, so the numbers can vary in or out of your favor.
These are the hard documented numbers on a $68,080 MSRP Corvette C6 GS. There are no doubt some variables in anyone's case depending on your location, the current deals, and the economy.

I bought both my '07 and '08 using Supplier Pricing. With today's market conditions, the deals offered by some of the Corvette Forum dealers will handily beat supplier pricing and I've seen some that actually come close to GM employee pricing...good luck! Ooorah!

You get the supplier price when a friend who works at GM gives you the code for your discount. You get the employee discount when you or an immediate family member works for GM. Go to the gmfamilyfirst website and enter your zip code to find your discount and build your car.
