Have you viewed, and are you following, the "Ranger" clutch fluid maintenance site and video? If not, here it is:

http://www.rangeracceleration.com/Clutch_Care.html

Dot 4 is the preferred fluid.

We certainly have the GM DOT4 available if you'd like to use that as well.

The owner's manual for my 06' ZO6 specifically state's using GM DOT-4 fluid, so just get it from Culley's parts house keeping thing's in spec.

No.... A car company wouldn't do that.

Castrol GT LMA, synthetic Dot 4, has a higher than most wet boiling point and is very clear colored, like light straw. Makes it easy to tell when it changes color.

Prestone 4 from Autozone. Price is right, and easy to get. Don't over-think it.......

Yes, don't over think it.

Best is freshest...so bleed/ the flush system at least yearly.
Best is also not to mix brands...so stick with one.

OPPS.. I just did the suck it all out.. replace, suck it out, replace, pump clutch, ....did this about 8 times before it was clear again, BUT.. I used DOT 3 ?

Should I re-do it with DOT 4 synthetic?

My guess is your system is contaminated now. I'm sure it makes a difference. I be checking with my GM dealer pronto.

Me too. If you want the best, this is it. About $75 a bottle.

I think the GM branded is a bit expensive. The Prestone is just as good according to Ranger.

Don't worry about it - all modern brake fluids are synthetic and DOT 3 & 4 are completely compatible.

DOT 4 has higher boiling points than DOT 3, and the clutch actuator is down close to hot parts at the back of the engine such as the headers, so I'd recommend just do your Ranger method clutch fluid swap again with some DOT 4.

I use the Prestone DOT 4 stuff in the clutch on my track Z06 and have never had any clutch problems. At less than $3 for a 12 ounce bottle I can do the Ranger method quite often to keep my fluid clean at very low cost!!

The one brake fluid you don't want to use in your brake system or clutch is DOT 5. It's a silicone based stuff that IS NOT compatible with DOT 3, 4, 4+, or 5.1, and if you do get it into your system you'll need to flush and clean the system to get it all out of there.

Bob
