2006 Z06 or Wait for c7?
Im thinking about getting a c6 z06 or should I hold out for the c7?! Wonder if the new c7 performance will exceed the c6 z06 or if its going to be very mod friendly. I just dont want to buy a c6 z06, and be embarrassed by a c7 with minor mods.

No doubt in my mind the C6Z AND ZR1 will be eclipsed by the future C7's but here today, there is no better value in used performance cars as in a 2006 Z06 which can be found in the high 30's now.
Buy one now, resell in in a few years after you see what the C7 will have in store. Also keep in mind the C7 will be pulling a premium for 2-3 years initially.....gonna take a LONG time before you see c7's priced in the range a C6 Z06 is TODAY.

Ask yourself this, are owners of C5 Z06's ashamed of their cars performance when 2 yrs later the C6 Z06 debuted with another 100hp??

Its going to be 2 years until the c7 will be reasonably affordable. When I say that I mean that dealers are going to price gouge during the first year. Look at the zr1, people were paying up to 50k above sticker.. not what I personally consider reasonable.
Get the z06 now, keep for 2 years and then you can make the switch to a c7 without getting f'd in the a...

Z06 NOW! I plan on buying something in a C7... in about 5 years. As others have stated, once the prices settle. Bought a GS coupe now to tide me over. Granted it's not a Z, but I will enjoy it non the less!

The new Camaro is no faster than the old 4th gen.
I think the 'vette platform has just about hit the wall regarding power/acceleration. I think what we will see now are chassis/interior/power-delivery refinements. Same for the car's weight. Sure, it can get a bit lighter, but not by a ton. FYI, the base corvette has weighed within 10 pounds year-to-year, similarly optioned, since 1984.
I bought a C6 Z06 now because in 2011 they re-did the exhaust, fixed the transmission issues, and whatever they do, I think that 2012 is going to be the end of the line for an NA 427ci motor. That is an icon to me. A work of art. 12* heads, etc. etc. etc. No matter what they do, the LS7 is a sickhouse motor and has a ton of history to it.
The C7 is going to have more electronics, better interior. and probably be narrower and a touch lighter. I don't like electronic doodads beyond the HUD, traction control, and my radio for the most part. The interior could use a touch of work, but it's still nice, and I like the wide-body look. This car is very small. Generally, people view the Porsche 911 as a small car, an the 'vette as "large". Here are the facts:
997 TT:
Height:51.6"
Length:175.6"
Width:72.9"
C6Z:
Height: 49"
Length: 175.6"
Width: 75.9"
That's it, a scant 3" wider. The C6Z is only 3" wider than the 997 TT car. I don't know how much smaller you want it. It already has an aluminum frame and carbon-fiber parts. Tipping in well under 3200#.
There is precious little performance left on the table for the corvette as a RWD manual transmission car. All that's left to do is refine the vehicle, now, and I don't want something TOO refined. I like a bit of raw edge, and the C6Z has just about the right amount for me.
YMMV, but sooner or later the law of diminishing returns, EPA averages, and all that crap will kick in and the 'vette will cease to get appreciably faster. I personally think we have about hit that wall, and from everything being said, GM is putting the same horsepower engine in the C7 as was in the C6, and relying in a bit of refinement to make the car a tick quicker, and up-scale interior and new styling to make it sell.
Maybe they will put narrower tires on it so people stop whining about the "tire grabbing".
Maybe they will put non-defeatable TC in the car to make the govt. agencies happy.
I'm not too worried about either.
I would like better seats, but you're better off just lumping it and dropping $2K to get seats that fit YOU! GM would be dumb to put a seat in the car that fits only 180# fit guys. Think of how many people in America would poo-poo that decision? Just buy the seats you want and call it a day. Certainly cheaper than a new car, and I have never heard of a new seat voiding any kind of warranty unless you cross a wire and don't insulate it and the car burns down or some other such train of events.

PS. I love this car! It is AWESOME! My last car was no slouch either, but the Z is just phenomenal!

I guess I am in the minority on this one, but I would wait and see what the C7 offers. A lot of speculation out there on the C7 pertaining to the engine, HP, weight, transmission, and certainly the body style. I would just keep saving my bucks and wait it out.

That's whats great about buying a 3-4 yr old used car. Most of the big depreciation has already hit, you can drive it another few years and still get a good resale. All the fun of owning a Z06 now while saving a ton of cash instead of buying new

Keep in mind, when ever the C7 comes out, it won't outperform the Z06. When the C6 first debuted, the C5Z was still quicker and it took till 08 for the base model with Z51 to match it's speed. In the meantime, when the C6Z came out in 06, pricing was through the roof.
I think you have a long window to enjoy a C6Z from now till when the C7Z comes out AND is affordable like today's C6Z's pricing. And there is no guarantees that the C7Z will trump the C6Z in overall performance by a significant margin.
Nontheless, I am very interested to see what the next C7Z will be.

Gimme a break will you? I don't know whether the next C7 will be an upgrade, especially with the politicians we have in charge. But, I DO remember people saying , "How can the C6 be as good as the C5 ZO6?!?". Boy, those dopes were wrong too! Just wait and see. However, a ZO6 with 505 hp..will be a benchmark for a long time.
