First time poster -Anti Theft light on 2006 C6
Hi there
First time posting....hoping someone can help.
When I left work this evening and started my car, the anti-theft light (padlock) remained on. I drove the car fine to the store, locked the doors, did my thing, and was able to come back and unlock the doors and start the car fine. The light remained on, and I noticed on the rest of the drive home that the power windows would not work.
I got home, turned off the car, read my manual and figured I should take it to the dealership. Upon trying to reenter the car, the doors would not unlock. The fob would not unlock the doors or the trunk. Tried backup fob and had some issue. I ended up opening the truck with the key (which set the alarm off for 2 minutes. I pulled the door release only to have the door unlock, the alarm sound again, but the power window stayed up and I could not get the door to open without it lowering.
I climbed in through the hatch and was able to get the passenger door to open using the manual pull.
All interior lights are on, and the starter is lit up green. But when pressing it, nothing is happening. Assoc mode doesn't function either. I tried using the fob in the cradle in the glovebox as well, and still nothing.
My theory is that somehow the alarm is not disarming. Its keeping the doors and windows locked and keeping the car from starting.
Am I looking at a tow truck to the dealership at this point?
Thanks!

Unnecessary to climb through the hatch. Open the hatch with the key then pull the door release tab (for lack of a better word). It's on the left side after opening the hatch.

You said you looked in the owner's manual but didn't elaborate. So if you followed what the manual says about the Theft Deterrent System arming and you didn't intentionally or accidentally do that and you can't disarm it according to the instructions then I have to believe there's a system problem that needs dealer attention. Did you check on the Immobilizer function?
Check this thread for ideas but that's all I have to offer. Good luck.

It definetly sounds like the immobilzer function based on your thread post.
Now the issue is getting it to the dealership. The car is in my garage. Basically dead. There is no starting it or shifting it into neutral (auto transmission), and the steering wheel is locked.
Will a tow truck be able to get it out and onto a flatbed?

When you pull that door cable from the left rear trunk area, its not going to lower the window but it will allow the door to still open. Once you get the door open, pop the hood and use a meter to check the battery for solid connections and power.

I am interested to see what happens here. Please keep us all posted.
It is difficult to think that the tow truck could get the vehicle on the flatbed without the ability to put your Corvette in neutral. Let us know if you can get it to neutral.

Doesn't look like the neutral is going to be an issue anymore:
Update: I called my dealership to setup an appointment. When I told him the issue, he suggested that I try disconnecting the battery, waiting 10 mins, and then reconnecting it to clear any kind of 'computer lock-out' that could be causing the alarm to not disarm.
I tried that just now, and it appears to have fixed everything. The fobs are now reconcized, the car started fine, AND the anti-theft light is no longer remaining 'on' upon starting the car.
My question now is....
Was that the problem and its fixed now? Or should I still be taking it to the dealership for the minimum $90.00 diagnostic?

Can't be sure they would find anything - there is a possibility a code is still on record. But my experience with codes is that even if one exists, it may not be accessible - that has happened to me at the dealership even with a display in the DIC.

How old is your battery? A weak or dying battery has been know to cause all sorts of electrical gremlins in the C6. If everything is fine now, I wouldn't waste the $90 diagnostic unless it happens again; and then I'd opt for a new battery first. My 2cents. Good luck.

disconnect the negative battery cable and put an ohm meter on the battery after is sits overnight. If the reading is in the low 12's or lower, there's a problem. Could be in the cable connection, the alternator or the battery - most likely the battery.

This morning I had basically the same problem with girl friend's '07 I bought for her a few weeks ago; only difference is when I reconnected the battery, it was still dead. I have removed the battery and going for a new battery shortly.

As a side note here, i'm sure many of you guys know the following, but it took me a while to find out that:
Pressing and holding the accessory position on the start button will allow (all other things being ok) the DIC to come up without the engine starting. This will also allow the A6/4 shifter to be moved from the park position.

But I've been told once a battery's been dead, reliability is problematic. And as posted earlier in the thread, if a battery is weak, all kinds of weird stuff starts to happen. Like my car alarm going off when I hit the "unlock" button on the fob.
I'd take a hundred bucks and buy an Optima instead of paying a dealer $90 to tell me I need a new battery.

And get yourself a battery tender.
Hook it up if your car is going to sit for more than 2 weeks. Get the adapter to plug it into your lighter socket (it's always on) and it becomes almost too easy.
Good Luck, I hope the gremlins are gone.
