LSX 454 or ERL 454
GM lsx 454 from gm is the complete long block and the erl454 is only for the shortblock.
which engine would you rather have?
lsx 454 is pushing 620 horsepower and 590lb torque. those are close to zr1 numbers on a na engine.
i know its a stupid question but is the lsx 454 a much better engine and stronger then the stock ls3?

Personally, I would go with the LSx454. Strong engine right out of the box and has a GM warranty. If you wanted, at a later date, to really bump the horsepower, the LSx454 would handle it.

The ERL 454 is an LS3 block with new ductile iron dry sleeves. It is 4.185 bore and 4.125 stroke, Wiseco forged pistons, Callies Compstar forged rods and crank. It is $5k plus a $1200 core for an LS3 block.
The LSX454 is a complete short block minus oil pan and intake manifold. It is also an all forged Chevy rotating assembly with LSX heads and cam. The 620 hp is carbureted, it is 580 with injection. As mentioned above, it uses the Bowtie cast iron block and is very strong, but carries a 100# weight penalty. Scoggin Dickey lists them for $9995.
I think I would prefer the ERL assembly. The parts are slightly higher quality and it is $5000 cheaper. This would allow me to have my own heads ported and choose my own cam that better suits my usage. Weight is such an important aspect on the C6 I would hate to give up over 100# with my new combination.

come on Warren Johnson helped design the LSX block. yes its heavier but ti can also take alot more abuse. TnA near detroit somewhere made 2500hp on their twin turbo setup. they made over 250 dyno pulls had no probs didnt even change bearings. erl does qauilty work but for this one id go with LSX.

I like your way of thinking Steve

Thats the hard part im thinking somewhere down the line im going to supercharge it because im a horsepower junky.
Will the lsx454 be able able to handle a procharger making over 1000hp?
Or should i just go with an erl 427 forged shortblock built for boost.?
