That #*%# plastic glove box latch!
Not sure if this has happened to anyone recently and I hope this isn't a repeat thread, yesterday while driving I reached to open my glove box and I heard an unfamilar cracking sound and my glove box didn't open? I pulled over and tried to open it again and to my shock the tab came off, .......I mean broke off...the plastic piece snapped in two. It took some effort but I finally was able to pry open the glove box door and disassemble the broken latch. Not brain surgery and it is a simple replace, I just didn't expect this......then again the latch flap is just thin plastic, beware all.......now where did I put Gene's number????

I just ordered a new console lid latch from Gene last night.
I had to think of something else to order because the minimum shipping cost is a killer for one little part like that. Fortunately I wanted to buy a cargo net too.

This has been happening fairly often. For my own curiosity was the glove box door locked at the time you tried to open it??? If the answer is no, then that is worse.

Known issue. Mine had broken off and was gone already when I picked up the car. Word of advice is don't lose the lock cylinder as it will be moved over to the new latch...much more expensive if you have to replace the cylinder also.

BINGO!!!! This was discussed quite a bit back in January. Strong correlation with the cashmere interior color. I broke the latch on my late model 07 vert last January that's cashmere. Someone posted that cashmere was most likely to break as the cashmere plastic didn't have carbon black (or enough of it) to give the plastic the necessary fatique strength.

It's been fine for about 20-30 openings and closings. (probably better than stock!)
I don't know if it will help you or not, but know that you're not the only one!

TOMZARBO,
Great thought process, video and explanation. I will keep this in mind as I have a 2006 cashmere also.

Wow mine is cashmere too!
Considering that this is so common, I think a recall on cashmere inter parts needs to occur.
Image whats going to happen 20 years from now. The interior will be dust...

Great video Tom, I am going to take a look at mine. Titanium grey interior is certainly vulnerable to this also...haven't heard of as much in black cars.

Mine broke when it had less than 10K on it! And it may have been opened and closed 30-40 times.

my latch on the center console broke. OMG I about passed out when I saw the price of the replacement latch from GM. Nearly $40+ for a 2 cent piece of plastic. Got it from Gene at about 25% off that price, but wow, I will open it gingerly from now on.

Hasn't happened to me, but it's no surprise. If you haven't noticed, the console isn't the only thing in the car that isn't winning any awards for interior innovation. Still, it's a lot better than the one I had in my 350Z - the one that was spring loaded and opened by itself constantly while driving.
