Anyone notice price compression on late models?
I have been in the market for the last 3 weeks and have noticed that the difference in prices between a 2008 and a comparably equipped 2010 is approximately $5k. That would equate to only $2,500 between model years. Seems kind of low. I used to think that 3-3500 was the price between model years.
I suspect that the smaller difference is due to the fact that very little changes from year to year.

After the economy tanked, GM really lowered the production numbers- supply and demand has finally swung back the other way in favor of better resale value.

I haven't paid much attention lately but when I was looking in late 2009the average was $5000.00 per year depreciation. There also seemed to be a bottom of $32,000 to $35,000 that would hold for two or three model years with verts of course more than coupes and ZO6's more than verts. I have noticed the asking prices in todays market is about the same as it was in 2009 for the same car and options. Perhaps in part due to the price increases in the later model years as well as a slight improvement in peoples perception of the economy.

Yeah, prices absolutely suck for used Corvette's anywhere remotely close to me. I frequently see ones with 10-20k miles that are 1-3 years old priced at more than you can buy a new one for. Both from private sellers and dealerships.

GM completely tanked the market awhile back with all the deals and over production... They are in the business to sell new ones and could not care less about the used car vette market....

I find it hard to believe the dealers are able to sell the used cars for anywhere remotely near the asking price on most of the deals they advertise around here on a used car. Must be people that are wanting to finance every last cent and therefore will pay those ridiculous prices?
And no the vehicles I refer to are not GM Certified.

Well, if people are paying the MSRP for a new Corvette, then the used prices would actually seem decent. When I'm closer in the market for getting my 'vette I'll probably take another look at the used market and offer what *I* feel is an acceptable amount, and see what they say.
