Has anybody been able to pinpoint the exact difference between the wide rear only and Z06 skirts? I'm also curious if they'll fit if I decide to do the wide front down the line.
No, they are not the same.
The wider front fenders on a 'FULL' widebody conversion (or GS) make the curvature of the skirts different than if you just have a wide 'booty' with regular front fenders.
Here my 06 Z51 3lt coupe wide body rear with ZR1 side skirts. Previous owner put them on. Since then I added the C7 carbon base front splitter to bring it all together.

Sorry forgot to list them with the pictures. They are RPI ZR1 Side skirts with OEM fender flares. I'm assuming they are for the wide body rear with a base front. To be honest I never knew they came that way.
Hmm maybe it's in my head but they look a bit different in a good way. I'm guessing those are the unpainted version? I may just go that route if I can't get them in carbon fiber.

These are painted flat black. Think they call black trim paint or something. I asked the previous owner a few months ago because I needed to know what to paint the front splitter. He said it was painted by RPI so it may be just the flat black primer. I guess.
Here a pic of the splitter that was added to it. It was painted flat black but with a different brand of paint. (Can't remember) It all matches up well. Ignore the air damn part. I removed those after body shop installed the splitter and the ZR1 spoiler.
