Default s5 trade in afterthoughts, 2011 gs (pics)

After having the 2011 gs for about 3 weeks and putting 800 miles on it, I figured I give you guys insight on how I feel about the trade .The s5 is the one of the best looking gt cars at the price. The truth is that I should have test drove a vett first. The gs feels twice as fast and looks just as good. Sure I do miss how the led drl looks at a distance, but I see enough s5 & a5 around my neighborhood in Atlanta. Surprising I’m pretty sure the suspension on the gs feels just as good as the s5. I always drive with the top off, and I do not like the looks of verts s5 & gs. At 6'8 this is pretty much the only 0-60 in 4sec, sports car that I could fit into. That doesn’t mean I would have bought a 100k used r8 V8 with the same performance numbers, no thanks.

One thing is for sure this car demands respect. I live around a lot of exotics f430, sls amg, gt2 when they hear her open up they give me the honk of approval. Never happened with the s5 pipes and all, not that I should care, but my gf thinks it’s pretty cool.

Any opinions on aftermarket mods. I have already completed the led conversion in the tail lights, license plate, and interior. I need to tint the tail lights a little.
Here’s some comparison pics.

Congrats on the new GS, I've done a lot of mods to my Vette and there's an endless list of possibilities. You need to ask yourself what you want, beauty mods or performance mods or a little of both. I did mostly performance and a little beatification... but that's what's great about the Vette, you can do so much and really make the car very unique.

Where are you in Atlanta? I'm in the Tucker/Decatur/Emory area. I too considered a s5 for a while but decided that I wouldn't be happy with the overall performance and cost of ownership. Glad to see another new GS owner in town

How do you miss how your own headlights look at a distance? I mean, weren't you driving the car most of the time or were you waiting down the road to catch a glimpse? Either way, nice car, I like the silver!

Hey im in the chamblee / dunwoody area , right next door to you. I have seen only about 3 grandsport on the road compared to about 20+ s5 ,m3, and 911's.

The standard GS vette looks way better IMO. The S5, in standard trim, looks entirely to yuppie. Like its the definition of metrosexual. The white one pictured looks like something out of the original Fast & The Furious movie. With the exception of the R8.. Audi's in general look like something driven by a woman. I realize the Audi interior is probably much better than that of the GS.. but the GS wins everywhere else.

The GS is faster, more agressive, masculine looking, gets better gas milage, stops & handles better, roof comes off, is alot more exotic and is just all around the hotter looking car.

Now here's a thought. Your car would look awesome with my cyber gray headlights off of my GS matching the stripes.

My car would look awesome with your silver headlights matching my silver stripes against the Cyber Gray.

The only trouble is it's a big pain to change them out. Requires fender removal.

It would look good though.

I like Audis a lot but none really stick out IMO. They all look the same, just different size. Vettes look like nothing else. It is hard to beat an Audi's interior. Audi owners can keep their maintenance costs though.

that's one thing i did not touch on "gas" . if i drive the s5 aggressively i will get about 15/16mpg the gs has been getting 12/13 mpg. cruising highway i get 22mpg the s5 was getting 24mpg. i hope it will get better .

The S5 is a very sweet car in a lot of regards. The ridiculous "flip-up-only" roof, however, is a complete deal breaker IMO. If Porsche can engineer a sliding sunroof into the 911, Audi should certainly be able to do it in the A5 and S5.

The S5 is a fabulous car, the C6 is altogether different. I took an S% owned by a fried, out for a drive. I could get used to it as the compliment to my C6. it would be a good winter car up here
