Rear fenders- SMC or metal?
JUst finished reading article in the Aug 2011 issue of Vette magazine. The title is "From Fiberglass to Carbon Fiber." It discusses the different materials used over the years in the construction of the corvette. Page 81 starts the C6 section and the first paragraph contains the following quote: "The plastic-intensive SMC body panels remained, although surprisingly, the rear fenders were made of conventional steel."
Is this true?

No. Here's an old post by Talon90 with the materials:

Editor? What Editor?
The first thing I did when I read that article was to take a magnet (wrapped in a paper towel) and go over the rear fenders of my car. Sure takes away from the creditably of a magazine when an error like that shows up. Where was the editor? I would have been shocked, beyond belief, if the magnet would have stuck.

Sounds like the writer thought that GM had mated the Corvette with the Solstice/Sky and the end result was a car with steel rear fenders(from the Solstice/Sky) and SMC front fenders/hood/doors/roof/etc from the Vette. A Solvette.

Sorry to bring up an old topic - but I read this too just now. Wooooo... They are so dead wrong?!?!
I have been trying to confirm that a c5 Z06 had an aluminum frame... Which I'm finding was incorrect info I had been given YEARS ago.
I had a wrecked 02 Z06 in my shop last week, and should have put a magnet on the frame.... But oh well.
Any one?! Set us all straight.

No, I think that would be "Solvettesky" ... and they're made in Poland nowadays.
