Is the number posted how many sold or how many built? I think the lattter.

I love the Corvette...but do not see sales really increasing until the C7.

GM certainly got aggressive on sales promotions in the January to June period, which obviously helped. With the introduction of Carlisle Blue and no base black available for 2012 it will be interesting to see what the new model year sales will be. One very positive thing GM has done however, is to start seriously advertising the C6 in the last month; I think this could really pay off if they keep it up!

Technically, when the build order is placed they are sold. Retail sales is another issue, but that falls on the purchasing dealership's shoulders.

That can't bring themselves to build your color choice.

Just kidding, hopefully you get yours soon!

Yes they have.

In June GM built 823 2011's and 616 2012's, for a June total of 1439. Total year to date for 2012's is 701(they built 85 2012's pryor to June). Total 2011 production was 13,596.

The dealers sold 1299 Corvettes in June 2011 compared to 1405 Corvettes sold in June 2010.

On July 2, 2010, the dealers had 4342 unsold 2010 Corvettes sitting on their lots.

On July 2, 2011, the dealers have 2668 unsold 2011 Corvettes sitting on their lots.

Did you order from a dealer that doesn't sell many new Corvettes? Allocation could be the problem. Unless Carlisle Blue is still on constraint, you should be well past 1102 by now.

I don't understand the allocation thing. If production is down and sales slow why don't they let any dealer order anything they want?

When a manufacturer reports sales they mean sold units - not to the dealer, but to the end buyer. When they report cars produced they mean just that.

GM classifies cars as "produced" and "delivered".

"Produced" means just that. That's the number of cars built during the reported time period.

"Delivered" means cars that have been delivered to the retail customer during the reported time period. In other words, "Delivered" = "sold".

If you read my post #12, I explain in detail, from information GM supplies to "Inverstors" each month, the number produced and the number sold("Delivered") for the month of June and YTD. Notice that even though the 2012's "formally" went into production in June, 2011, 85 2012's were built pryor to June. I also showed the breakdown between 2011 & 2012's built in June 2011.

According to GM's figures they give to "Investors" they produced 13,596 2011 model year C6's. That includes all models; base, GS, Z06 & ZR1.
