Black Cloth Convertible Top Maintenance
What does everyone use to keep their Black cloth convertible top clean?
How do you keep the lint and dirt off of it?
What do you use to wash it and keep it clean?
Thanks.

I have a friend who uses a small lint remover. Its on a small roller like a small paint roller. That Black top still looks like new and I think the car is an 06. He uses this after the wash and in between when just a touch up is needed.

I have also used my shop-vac on it with the round brush attachment. Was visiting Vegas and had one very windy dusty, gritty day...vacuumed before washing it.

"Sunbrella" 303 to waterproof and keep it UV protected. They make a cleaner too. It is much easier to use than Ragg-Top. The soap & water plus the lint roller is what I use for car washes and touch ups.

Safety Car
Just wash mine with the same wash I use on the rest of the car. I have had several verts over the years and never had a problem with premature wear.
One thing I do is apply a generous coating of Heavy Duty Scotch Guard. I tape off the rear window and tape newspaper to the other areas then apply several coats. Unusually lasts more than a year.

Vacuum and vacuum.
Lint roller as needed.
Rarely washed w/ new sponge, car wash soap, air dry.
Rag Topp foam cleaner applied with new sponge and followed rain protector bi yearly.
When rubbing/ brushing the top follow the tread grain.

I gently wash with the same car wash mix that I use on the car but always start with the top. I wash gently with an artificial sponge, then rinse off. (As instructed in the manual, I believe). When dry, if anything remains, I use a lint roller as others have mentioned above.

By all means don't do what I did today. Washed the new 2011 GS Vert for the first time. Water beaded up nicely on the black top. Thought I'd swipe off the beads of water with my chamois. Left tons of chamois lint (sheep skin) swirled all over the top. Lint roller won't remove it. Rubbing off with a clean, high quality, microfiber towel does remove the chamois skin. But, what a pain! Static buildup zaps about every 10 secs. Next time I'll use my filtered compressor to remove excess water before drying. I've also decided a chamois is "OLD" school not doing as well as a good microfiber towel.

I have a cashmire top on the 'vette and a black fabric top on the Cobra. Both get Raggtop treatment and both look really good. The Cobra looks brand new (since I've owned it since birth). The vette has a small hinge mark on the drivers side that I think came from the previous owner keeping the top down too long on summer? Regardless, Raggtop will continue to get my vote.
