AC/Delco battery age?
I need a new battery but I'm curious how old the one I have is. It's AC/Delco and all I can see on it as far as info is the serial #. The car is 6 years old but I've only had it 9 months and I'd be really amazed if it was still the factory battery. Is there a way to tell the age of the battery only by the serial #?

Not impossible. I have had a number of AC batteries that lasted that long. The one in my 08Z is over 3.5 years old and still going strong. Even when sitting for 4 weeks in a cold garage the engine will easily fire.

Thanks! Just checked that. Mine is 048R and it's an 86-6yr battery. So it's dead with 3 years left on the warranty. Could I take it to a dealer and get new one under warranty or am I outa luck since I didn't actually buy this battery?

Check with member "kjb13" in the C3 section, as posts Advance Auto discount codes, and recently got a gold 7yr, 3yr free replacment battery for $80 bucks. Gotta order online, but will be sitting on the store counter the next day.

I would have jumped on that $80 battery but there are no Advance Auto stores in NV. Damm!
I've had real good luck with Die Hard in the past. I think I'll go with that.

I just replaced the original Delco battery in my 2007 that was around 5 years old or close to it with a new Delco Professional 6 year battery for around $84 from my Chevy dealer.

My GMC Yukon is 7 years old in August with the same OEM battery. I ran it down 3 times leaving the lights on and it is still strong. I'll go Delco again in the Yukon and in the Vette when needed.

Sears is a mile away from my house so I got a Die Hard Gold for $120 and before I left my wife handed me a $20 off coupon. This is the first time I've had to spend any money on maintenance in the 9 months I've had it so I'm pretty happy.

I changed the original Delco on my C5 at 7 years as matter of caution, it was as strong as ever. Of course, that was with religious use of a tender on it from day one.

Walmart battery prices have increased. Their most expensive battery has moved up in the last year or so from $80, $85, and it's now $90. I'm still probably get a Group 47 to replace the hard to find Group 90 in my 2007. The 47 is about 3/4 inch higher, length and width are the same.
