Default LSX 454R install... Maybe the first to do so?

Hello forum members!

I will do my best to keep this updated with new photos as often as possible.

A few months back it was necessary to change out my LS7 clutch & engine/trans mounts. Long story short.. engine mounts were completely blown out as well as the clutch had virtually no life left in it.
Seriously less than 0.027 of friction material left TOTAL on both sides of the friction disc. It was so bad that the combination of busted engine mounts with the spent clutch wore down the input shaft snout..

The LS2 that I had built was making in the neighborhood of 500rwhp (Tick polluter cam, PRC 225 heads, Port matched FAST 102 etc..) Needless to say the car was very fun to play with.

Here is an example of how patient my lady is with my car addiction lol
yes that is the LS2 in my Kitchen

I sent the input shaft off to get welded up then turned back down to the correct size.

While waiting the few weeks for the input shaft to get repaired I got a wild hair up my a** that I want more cubic inches so I started digging around craigslist and the Forum for a LS7 or LSX. I then came across a great deal on a LSX 454R that was originally part of a Pro Trophy Truck Engine Program. After talking with the builder himself we made a deal on the engine as well as one off Billet intake to fit the LSX-DR heads in the C6 engine bay.

I am not aware of anyone (in the C6 community) who has attempted to take one of these 454R engines and convert it to Fuel injection & stuff it into a C6.

If anyone knows of a similar build send it my way!!

I will update with more info & photos if anyone is interested in following this build..

Currently I am waiting on the Intake Manifold to be completed so I can keep moving forward on the build.

Aside from the engine, I am doing ALL of the build myself on a now very limited budget lol.

Info on the goods:

-LSX-454R (now 457ci) http://www.gmperformancemotor.com/parts/19260835.html

-Meziere Water Pump https://www.meziere.com/Products/Coo...-Rotation.aspx

-FORE Dual Pump Fuel System
-LG G2 Coilovers
-Zr1 oem widebody
-Z06 Brakes
-4 Point Roll Bar
-Z06 Black Spyder wheels
-MGW billet upper/lower shifter
-ZR1 Sway Bars
-B&B Fusion Exhaust
-Exhaust Commander Elite
-Kooks 3" catless Xpipe
-....much more to list when I have a bit more time.

Cool project.

What kind of power are you hoping to make? Which Cam are you planning to run? Will the motor run on 93?

I can't wait for video to see/hear it running when you have it going.

There is a video on YouTube of someone that has done this. Not much detail on how it was done though.

Hoping to be in the 650-700+rwhp range. The engine made 812 on the stand with the crate Wilson manifold. We brought the compression down to right at 12:1 to run on 93. I am not sure on the cam specs (it is the builders design)

I can't wait to hear it as well.

Kooks quoted me $1570 for a set of 2" headers to fit the DR exhaust ports.

No way?? I have searched everywhere for anyone who has done this with a 454"R"

There are a handful of lsx 454 c6's but none that I have found using a 454r solid roller DR-headed engine.

Please send end the link I'd love to see it!

That's insane! I love it!

Those heads look like size of trash cans on the intake side - wicked sick!

I'm in for the updates - really wishing you the best and the fewest hangups!

Thanks,Matt

I think you're underestimating the power output. My LSX 427 made 660ish to the rear wheels. You should be hitting close to 700 easily depending on the cam.

You are likely correct Sir. My hope is to be one of the few 700+rwhp Naturally Aspirated. The power will be going through a TR6060. Shouldn't be too much loss there. The Billet tunnel ram style intake manifold will have an advantage over the Wilson carb intake.

Thank you everyone who is enjoying this thread!

That thing is going to be a beast.

That OEM ZR1 widebody must have cost a pretty penny.

Holy crap, that's going to be awesome!

It also explains the wrapped headers in the for sale section. I REALLY want them, but funds are too tight right now.

Thanks! & yeah they are still for sale I really need to get them sold so I can buy the custom Kooks 2".

I had debated on modifying them to work on my heads but the 1 7/8 seem to be to close in size & id hate to cut up a set that someone else could use.
