Ever Made a Mod You Couldn't Live With?
#41
Amen. Most that mod their cars or have them "tuned" are too emarassed to admit to their foolishness, or too numb to recognize they caused their own problems, and at great expense. I especially enjoy people who soup up their engine, blow a connecting rod, and then say "the LS3 has weak connecting rods".
That said, what I've learned over time is to set goals for your mods. Figure out what you want from the car and then proceed. Tacking on mods here and there is what will get you a turd.

C6 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
No. I did make a few mods on my 06 MR vert that were not up to what I expected...ie MR console and guage pods.
My 07 is perfect for me , love every mod. Only problem I have had was buying the dual tops. Tried to use the clear top in spring. Temp went to 100 that day and the inside of the car had to be 180. Burned my arm on seatbelt buckel. Sold the clear top the next week and have had 0 regrets.
Just too darn hot down here for the cleat top.

For me, probably opting not to get mufflers put back on when I had to redo the exhaust. Not because of the sound but because of trying to get a VA state inspection sticker. I was just trying to save some money.

Yea, these body colored a-pillar covers. They seemed like a good idea but I grew to hate them and cut myself on the point about a half dozen times before I ripped them off.
I'm happy with all my other vette mods.
I made a HUGE mistake with an 08 Convertible Mustang I purchased. Purchasing it was the first mistake (Not because I didn't like the Mustang but because I bought it as my daily driver and in the winter it was useless), driving 1200 miles in the winter to get a Saleen Supercharger was the next mistake then selling it and taking a huge financial hit was the final mistake. Sold it 18 months after buying it and after all was said and done I lost about 10K between the SC and the depreciation I only had 5100 miles on it and 1200 of that was driving to IN and back to get the SC installed. I followed up this bad move by buying a new 2010 Explorer that I HATED! That lasted a year when I purchased my 11 CTS-V. Now that purchase I'm VERY happy with. I work from home now so driving in the winter is no longer an issue.

I agree. The less mods, the better. Too many and it doesn't look like a Corvette anymore. It looks like a collection of after market products or a parade float.
That hood thing was ugly. What was he thinking?

Nope! I have done a lot of mods on my 2010 coupe and I don't regret any of them.
Also, I have had a lot of fun doing them and I think they are all in pretty good taste. None of them really stick out to take attention away from the car itself, only enhancing it.

Not on the C6, but on my Z28, yes.
I lowered that car with Hotchkis springs, and went with cheap KYB GasAJust shocks. Big mistake. Those shocks may be ok for stock ride height, but when you add the demands of a stiffer lowering spring, they weren't up to the task. I ended up buying a set of Koni SAs and never looked back.
