Default Ordering a Centennial Edition? Dont get the hood stripes.

Intake heat is leaving a line all around them. And bubbling. Just something to think about, or question. Sun was bright at Road America. Looked worse in person. You can kinda see the lines in the pics. This is a NEW car, on display at the Chevrolet booth!

Well this is a first!I wonder if a less then perfect install process has anything to do with it.I've never had any issue with any stripes I put on my Vette's.

Maybe this is why there was a delay in Harvey's car getting the decals? Perhaps they have that worked out now.

Well this is the newer style hood. Maybe that's making a diff?

I don't think that was a production car so it's entirely possibly something from the paint is coming up. GM has done these Corvette decals for a while and if they were that bad, there would be TONS of threads here telling everyone.

Also, I don't believe you can do a "stripe delete" option on a Centennial Edition Corvette.

Let's hope they have the issued resolved. Mine is scheduled to be built the week of 8/29.

You are probably right.

I thought I would at least alert anyone to at least question this, if they were thinking of one.

This is one of the reasons why I don't agree with VINYL decals on $70K plus Autos.

I don't think you have a choice; it's part of the centennial package.

The pictures don't do it justice. I thought it actually looked worse. Me and my friend were looking at the car and our eyes went right towards it. Couldn't believe they put it on display.

Yes, that's true. It was hard to get a quality pic in that bright sun.

Default Vinyl tape is a poor substitute for paint.

Being "old" ( early 60s ) I remember precisely when automakers specifically Chevy began using vinyl tape. The 1968 Camaro ( I had one.) SS model had what they called a "bumblebee nose stripe". This was a wide stripe of about three inches width and two accent stripes of about 1/4 inch on each side. The stripe went arount the front of the car.

It was painted on...masked and painted. Pinstripes down the side of cars back then were popular and they were also PAINT!!!!

Mid year in '68 the factory decided to dress up the '68 SS Camaro. They took the nose stripes and ran them back in pointed accent stripe all the way down the doors. The nose to the front of the fender well was paint. From the fender well back to the door opening and down the door was vinyl tape.

An SS 396 Camaro back then with nice options cost $3500 to $4000 which would be maybe 15 or 20 grand now if inflation alone was acting and not the huge REAL increase in the price of automobiles. At the time my friends and I thought that putting vinyl tape on a Camaro was really cheap.

Soon, the tape on the door would attract nicks from other cars. These would bubble and spread. From this beginning until today many cars have large and small areas of vinyl tape. Yes, the tape is improved. Yes, the adhesive is improved. And , IMO, yes, it's still ultra cheap to put what is still plastic tape on a new automobile especially an expensive one.

It stripes are worth having on a vette they should be painted on. If I just had to have stripes I'd have the factory tape removed and identical paint professionally applied. No matter the improvement in "tape technology" the stuff still bubbles and still causes wax build up at the edges. Add heat from sunlight or engine and you get crummy appearance.

The tape looks pretty good in the showroom. It looks pretty good on a garage queen. But, if a car is driven it will deteriorate. ( Now, go on, make my day, and tell me that your car has tape on it and the tape is perfect. Go on. )

I have two of the 09 GT1 Corvettes. I've never had an issue with any of the stripe bubbling or having any problems.

The only issue I have had is a nick or small cut on the hood of the Z06 GT1 from a small rock. Other than that, they have been good. Yes i would have preferred them be paint but it is what it is.

Just got back from RA this afternoon and saw the car/hood decal you are referring to as well. Our group made the same comments as many posted here. I, too, would be quite unhappy if mine looked like that after just a few miles of driving.
