Hey Racer, Just looking for some current opinions. Hell, I am an Ole Phart and don't drive fast enough to need a radar detector . lol. But I have a daughter that sure does. She is 0ver 40 and her job covers three states. She could buy a hell of a detector for what she has paid in fines. She probably needs the detector and a laser jammer. lol.

The best of the best radar detectors is......not the V1!!!!
It the Bel STi-R Plus. It's not cheap but it is worth it.
With that said, even the very best radar detector will do nothing to save you from Lidar. For that you need jammers, my recommendation is the Laser Interceptor.
Minimum good setup will run her about $1500, the best setup like mine will run you well over 3000, closer to 4000. It's been worth every penny, actually I am money way ahead.
I'm currently editing a video now from today where my setup saved me a grand! I'll post it when editing is complete.

Thanks Guys.
That is the type info I am requesting. There is a five year old V1 in my desk drawer. They were great units a while back. I will relay your thoughts to daughter.

What brand are you using? laser Interceptor has come out with a "Texas" mode that allows you two options. First is a switch that puts it into laser identification mode, it voice ID's the Lidar unit but no jamming. You can tell the officer it's just part of you radar detector.
Second option allows you to flip a switch and permanently put them into parking sensor mode until the CPU is reset by connecting it to your laptop.
Here's the video I promised from today. Notice the V1 only alerted to K band from the door openers until I took the second point bonk shot from the trooper of Ka. Had I not had the 9500ci I would have been toast as he shot me hoping to get a Vette in place of a pickup!

A little hard to tell, but it sounded like both detectors went off almost simulatneously at about 1:16 and 1:32.
Can you give more details?

I've been doing a lot of homework lately trying to answer your question for myself. I came to the conclusion that the Bel STi-R Plus and Passport 9500ci are two of the best you can buy.
They are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for when it comes to detectors. I chose to get the 9500ci and am having it installed next week.
I'm not a road racer or a habitual speeder, but like most drivers I do exceed the posted speed limit from time to time. The 9500ci also has a GPS system that keeps track of traffic enforcement cameras and warns you when you are approaching an area where they are installed.
It also has a cool feature where if you drive in an area more than three times and receive false alerts it will automatically record that data and stop providing false alerts anytime you enter that area after that.
I'm also installing a cool little feature that will allow me to read the detectors output directly on my windshield using the HUD. I will be able to mount the control and display module for the detector in my ashtray hiding any evidence of having a radar detector by simply closing the ashtray door.

Bel? Really ... Bel !! Are you serious or just stuck with one? Choose Valentine or you'll certainly get a ticket before I do. I always appreciate the ESCORT AND BEL DRIVERS AHEAD OF ME ...

V1's have had falsing issues since they added POP. I sent mine back during the trial period, and have been using the Whistler I won at work with no issues.

I use a V1 w/ DashTronix.
I drive the length of California (San Diego to Clearlake) about 20 times each year. I drive 20-30 mph over the speed limit most of the 10 hour drive each way (when safe to do so) and have never received a ticket. My V1 alerts me to the Highway Patrol, I reduce speed and a few seconds later there they are - voila!
Whatever brand of detector you choose, you need to learn how to use it. There are no false alerts. If the detector goes off, it is picking up a signal. There are various types of signals. Learn what they are and what is a threat in the areas you drive in. Be informed, be safe.

Here in Illinois, the standard drill for a misdemeanor is:
You are placed under arrest, handcuffed, and stuffed in the back seat of the squad car.
You get your fingerprints and mugshot taken down at the station.
You post a bond, sometimes a sig but sometimes cash.
You must appear in court unless, maybe, you spend the $$$ for a good lawyer to plead for you.
You now have a criminal record, not just a traffic offense.
And while you are doing all this, your beautiful Corvette gets towed to the impound lot by a Neanderthal who doesn't give a rat's @$$ what happens to your car. Of course, you must pay the towing and storage bills to get your car back.
There are ways the Officer can make it much easier for you, if he wants to and if his department allows. But you certainly can't count on it.
